Always wondered how triple option

teams recruit... "Hey kid you've got a bright future here, we occasionally make a mediocre bowl game and absolutely zero NFL scouts will take you seriously as an option QB. So what do you say and go ahead and commit to us so we can get you nowhere!"

2% of college fb players go pro. I doubt anyone considering an nfl career is considering a triple option team in the first place.

…..…. he is the best example of why kids go to GT. Megatron was wanted by everyone; but he went to play for Chan Gailey b/c of the (gasp) - "ACADEMICS" at GT.
Many of those kids; much like the kids at the service academies; are in it for something much bigger than a possible career in the league.
But, I have wondered the same thing! Just saw a Calvin Johnson interview when they asked him why GT. As well spoken and goal oriented as he is no doubt why he choose such a tough academic university. That's when I threw my hands up and just said, " you know, I guess, it makes sense"! 2% go pro means the odds are heavily against you.
You have to just love football too!

Implying the recruit has intentions to go pro is what he is saying, nowhere as is not to the nfl.
I’m saying they don’t, they’re doing it for the education. Esp. At a school like GT.

throughout most of our history.
And there’s also a reason why most teams don’t run the option anymore. Football has gotten much more sophisticated, especially as athletes and skills have improved.
Even still, I remember being really frustrated on a regular basis when Ford was our coach, and a poor/overly predictable offensive performance cost us a win against an inferior team. It happened at least once a year on average.

Calvin Johnson was there. He is GT's leading receiver all-time. I'm not sure what he has to do with the OP's discussion of triple option offenses.

Calvin Johnson left two years before Paul johnson was hired and Thomas was recruited by Chan Galey.
Let’s see how many other people will use Calvin Johnson as an example in this thread.

Many times the triple option is adopted because you can't get the best athletes. Not you can't get the best athlete because you run the triple option.

the answer to your question is: hey, I see you're a pretty smart kid, but you didn't score well enough for an academic scholly. however, you are also a better than average athlete...wanna free ride?
that sort of thing really does work. and while your chest is all bowed out with our recent success, dont forget it wasn't too long ago PJ and the yellow jackets were giving us fits. when we fall again-and it will happen someday, I'm guessing you'll be among the first sporting the then success of the days colors, even if it would be garnet and black.
