So the trip lever (I looked it up) in my toilet just broke.

It's the cheap plastic arm on the other side of the flush handle. Toilet guts are all old school cheap builder stuff. This would be an excuse to go ahead and upgrade to nicer toilet guts and the fancy floater thing. But this cheap stuff still works fine, doesn't leak, etc.
What do? Replace lever for a couple bucks and 3 minutes of work? Yes. That's what I'm going to do. I was going to list other options, but there are no other options. That is the only option. Thank you for your help, Junge.

you are tall like me, so ignore the wishes of your wife and get a higher set toilet. They are the best. Then get a stool (no pun intended) for the wife. Ha ha!

Take the lid to the toilet tank and throw it away.

Make a hook out of a coat hanger and put it on the end of the chain. Hang the hook on the rim of the toilet tank. Pull chain to flush.
Total cost $onecoathanger.

2.0 version of this is take the handle out completely and thread the hangar through the hole. Now you can put the lid back on and you're LDR again.
