It is interesting how many late night hosts went the other way.

Obviously Colbert, Meyers and Kimmel have used their shoes extensively to process a political leaning. I don’t really watch late night TV but I think Fallon has tried to avoid it? As has Corden. I could be wrong...at this point my impression is made up of what I see in their ads and “Seth Meyers blasts Trump” clips that show up on my news feed.

I read an article that noted that Colbert

is at the top of the ratings, and the "apolitical" Fallon is struggling in ratings.

Again, the political stuff is what the people seem to want.

Ratings are way down for all the late night shows overall

compared to when Carson ruled (by percentages of course).

Still, you can go political and you're guaranteed to tick off half your audience. You can go funny and make them all laugh, or maybe 90%. The other 10% want to be subjected to politics 24-7.

Well there only 3-4 channels back then, too.

What else were you watching on TV at 11:30 PM?

Carson was the only game in town for a long time

and he led into letterman. NBC had a stranglehold on nightime talk shows.
