So, I went back to SoCal this weekend for the Dear Jack Adolescent/Young Adult Cancer Benefit at the El Rey Theater with Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness performing. Side note: Y'all should go and donate some money at dearjack.org, if you can - Even just $5 can make a huge difference for this incredibly underserved population of cancer survivors. Ok, That PSA Aside, I ended up having a couple extra days in SoCal as part of the trip, so I went and hit the breweries in town. I had my society memberships that I needed to pick up, meaning I had 24 bottles from The Bruery to retrieve. Additionally, I had three bottles from Bottle Logic, and a bunch of 4-packs.
So, that totaled out to 24 750mL bottles, 3 - 500mL bottles, and 38 16oz cans. The bottles were tough. I wound up only being able to check 12 of them (and sent the others home via a $90 trip to UPS) and the cans were another story. I ended up with a hard shell carry on that I checked filled with all but 5 of the cans. Sadly I had to sacrifice them.
TLDR: you can fit 33 cans in a checked bag and be at 49lbs, and 12 bottles and be at 47.5 lbs, with nothing but beer and padding in the luggage.
