Johnson: Neither the Jackets Nor Tigers Did Anything Illegal

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson said resorting to that kind of trickery is just football and is something he has seen for years Full Story »

Yeah, and if we had scored on ours and they hadn't

Sep 16, 2009, 11:13 PM

then I bet it'd be a different story.

was thinking same thing. Still say "hold" was biggest play

Sep 16, 2009, 11:14 PM

that took everything from us and gave them the ball and win.

Well the officials think otherwise.***

Don"t use "Officials" and "think" in the same sentence!

That's an oxymoron using morons!

So do I.

It is being a buncha poons to carry on with this complaint.
Cover the play better.

I've been wrong two times, but this isn't one of them.

the ACC the refs and the guys in the front office do not have a clue about football.

Whoa. So, GT didnt really win but they cheated! Sweet!

Sep 17, 2009, 3:11 AM

From now on, GT will be known as the school who cheats to win.

Sep 17, 2009, 7:42 AM

No. They did win, but they still had an illegal play. The hosing on the holding call was the worst call. I don't care about the trick play. We needed to be ready to cover their receiver when the play began, no matter where he was when before the play started.

That fake fieldgoal was a total error on the part of our

team. Their kicker can't even kick it 51 yards. No reason for a mental lapse like that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought they broke the huddle with 12 guys on the field??

Sep 17, 2009, 6:35 AM

That's what I thought was illegal. Other than that we shouldn't have fallen asleep at the switch.

I'm glad Paul Johnson says so. That makes it all better now. Like a pig telling you she's really not ugly.

legal, illegal play better than we did. If we play 4 whole quarters worth of football, this discussion doesn't even happen...

if there is NO holding call at crucial time of the game.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess it's not illegal unless you get caught.

Sep 17, 2009, 9:21 AM

That's what I took from Johnson's excusses.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No Kidding. The Officials who DIDN'T call it a penalty

Sep 17, 2009, 9:47 AM

thought it was legal. Gosh, CPJ, you are a smart one.

a substitution process, a mass substitution in fact. It's not even debatable that it was illegal. Our play did not occur during a substitution. Based on the rule book, our play was legal. The ACC is just trying to cover up missing the GT illegal play by implicating us to try to show that the outcome of the game was not altered.

Read the rule. GT CLEARLY violated it. Clemson, not so much

Sep 17, 2009, 2:13 PM

The ACC refs cited rule 9-2-2-b which reads:
"No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse opponents. No tactic associated with substitutes or the substitution process may be used to confuse opponents."

Georgia Tech CLEARLY violated that rule, by hurriedly swapping out practically the whole unit and intentionally having one guy hang stealthily near the sideline during that subsitution process.

According to the ACC refs, Clemson also violated that rule-- though in the case of Clemson, I just have a hard time understanding it, because I don't think that Clemson actually substituted anyone. The receiver just ran to the sideline acting like he was about to go off the field. That's a pretty fine line when it comes down to acting ability. But I guess it could have violated the spirirt of the "substitution process". I think that the refs were just covering up for blowing the call on GT-- which is a shame because now we'll never be able to use that play again.

Anyway, what's done is done. Clemson had plenty of chances to win. 3rd & 1 near the goal line and they send CJ up the middle for 1-yard loss that led to a field goal instead of a TD. Fake FG/punt. Terrible interception thrown by Parker. Etc. I hope to see the two teams play in the ACCG.

referees are made of stuff that sewage plants won't touch!***
