So called "pick plays"

Jan 10, 2017, 9:41 AM

Bama boards and other places are crying about the "picks" on the TD's to Williams and Renfrow. So silly. Those were great calls, executing well against the defense Bama was playing. They were playing a 0 coverage with full intention to bump and jam up our WR's. They did this a lot in the game. So long as the defender initiates the contact it is not illegal. Our guys were running slants, their guys jammed us to our advantage for getting the inside WR outside. Call the WaaaaaBulance!

Yep it is not a pick unless our guys make the contact. The last TD was more pass interference on the D IMO.

Look at the last play. Dude grabs the top of the WRs pads

and pulls him down towards him. Who's fault is that? Some kind of "trick" by us? Or just the defensive holding that they were doing all night?

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. We exploited their strategy.

Doesn a pick have to be against the off DB anyway.?

They were both well executed rub routes. Neither one was a

penalty. On the first one Leggett does a really good job of selling a route to the goal line and he's basically just fighting his way downfield through contact. When the ball is being released he turns to make himself available for a throw. Everyone knows the ball was never going to be thrown to him, but he still did a good job selling a legal route.

The second was an even easier no-call because the defender initiates all of the contact and basically pulls the WR down.

"pick" play or not, the guy was out of position because he was holding the receiver rather than breaking on the outside route. Bama was pressing and holding on the outside all night, we exploited it.
