I've seen both. 2016 makes more sense since it was the 2016 season. Press conference backdrop says 2017. If it's 2017, I've got to get that sticker off my truck.

There's been more than enough conversation and threads on this topic. Clemson is the 2016 National Champions.
There really shouldn't need to be this much uncertainty, IMO.

We can call it 2016-17 National Champions. Makes everybody happy. This coming year will be the 2017-18 College Football season.

2016 NCAA National Champions but the CFP likes to say we are the 2017 College Football Playoff Champions.. but 2016 is the official year.
