why nothing positive gets done in America any more. The polarization of the two parties, the increasing influence wielded by the extremists of each, the refusal to find common ground and work together vs voting strictly down party lines, whatever you wanna call it. We're all screwed until this changes. And no, I have no clue how you go about fixing it.

But years ago (in fact back when I was still at Clemson), I read a book by John Allen Paulos who is a mathematician that wrote a great chapter (I think it was in "A Mathematician Reads The Newspaper"), where he wrote about ranked choice voting.
It seems to be used very well in much of the globe and provides for similar perspectives not cancelling each other out. I'd be interested in seeing it applied here.

Yeah- Dems and Pubs used to have very similar goals and only differed on how to get there.
