told me that one of the local sports talk stations (I don't remember which one he mentioned) is reporting that the rivalry games may still happen.

According to the station, the $EC cancelled the OOC games in order to ensure that its teams would not have to pay buyout penalties to get the Alcorn's, UMass' Nicholls', New Mexico State's, and Kent State's of the world off the schedules, but the rivalry games may still take place.

Not sure I'm buying it since only a handful of teams in the $EC have rivals that are OOC, but the station insists this is a very fluid situation and that everyone should stay tuned.

rankings, would mean nothing without cross-conference games. Only 4 teams get into the CFP. Only the ridiculous "eye test" could decide who gets in. 2 SEC teams getting in would be nothing less than a scandal.

The SEC's issue in OOGs is their decision to start the season in late September. There simply aren't enough weeks in the season to work the games in due to the fact everyone wants to reserve 2 open weeks in case of rescheduling.

BTW, it is true the local sports stations here have a total SEC bent. They completely ignore the hometown team Ga Tech and their conference. For this reason, I stopped years ago listening to them and move to Sirius/XM.
