Sincerely Interested..what was Furman’s FB Players Average Star Rating out of high school?

Aug 29, 2018, 8:15 AM

Since Clemson signs players between 2 to 5 Stars..let’s say mathematically we have a team that has a 3.5+ overall star rating.

I would venture that Furman’s rating is much lower..say a 2.5 at best.

Whatever, it will show up on the scoreboard I would presume..but having attended school there too I know how well coached they are as a team and expect them to be precise & balanced in their execution.

What say you?

Much larger gap for Furman. By rivals Clemson has about a 3.8 average over the last 4 classes. In order to get into the top 100 you need an average of about 2.0. Furman would likely be lower but we will give them a 1.8 average. Now that Clemson has developed depth, our 3rd string is still much more talented than even the best on the Furman team. So the question becomes talent vs experience.

Based on a few years looking at these recruiting ratings, as soon as guys commit to FCS teams, their ratings often come down a notch. No doubt there's a big gap between top P5 schools and FCS, but for whatever it's worth, we have guys every year turn down FBS offers and sign with FU. Also, stars don't mean much once guys show up to campus. As we all know, depth is the real issue. A good number of our experienced starters can go toe-to-toe with P5 talent, but it drops off quickly as you go down the depth chart.

The 2018 class was all 2 stars and 1 no stars. 159 ranked class in country, #3 for Southern Conf.

I think Furman is more concerned with SAT scores.

What surprised me if the depth chart for Furman only listed 2-deep at several positions. Those dudes are going to be extremely tired by the 3rd quarter.
