Should the expectation be to win it all in the NIT?

Mar 11, 2017, 3:05 PM

It's been said here by many that we are an eyelash from being amongst the top teams in the ACC because of the close losses to the top tier teams. Once we accept the NIT bid, should the expectation be to win the whole thing? Considering how played the big boys so close, anything short of a NIT title would be a disappointment.

The NIT is a consolation prize

Mar 11, 2017, 3:13 PM

but it's not a bad tournament. It has teams that if not for automatic bids to lesser leagues are among the top 68. Mid major regular season champs who didn't win their conference tourneys are normally pretty good teams.

Can we win it? Sure. Will we? Doubtful.

Perhaps we should enjoy the competition of a post season tournament instead of trying to set a passive aggressive expectation just so you can spew on our team/coach if they happen to not meet your expectation

I just hope we don't get to NY and Brad gets another outrageous contract extension from DRad.

Definnitely. As Herm Edwards says...

Mar 11, 2017, 3:15 PM

"You play to win the game!" Yeah they might as well try to win it if they will be there. The truth is though the tournament is meaningless foe many of us. If I were them I would obviously play to win. Doesn't everyone play to win?

Most definitely the expectation should be to Win the NIT.Would be really nice to get over the hump and finally Win a NIT Championship after coming so close and getting to the Finals in 1999 and 2007 and then the Semi-Finals in 2014.The 1939 Southern Conference Tournament Championship and the ACC Regular Season Title, the only two Championships in Clemson Men's Basketball History;they both sure could use some more company in the small trophy case in Littlejohn.

It would not be wise to expect anything. We were lead to believe that this team would be better in the ACC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course not. We're Clemson, and we don't have

Mar 11, 2017, 4:57 PM

any history of winning the NIT, therefore we can't expect to ever win it. We're just not good in basketball and should quit acting as if we could be.

We can be great in basketball. OP and Barnes proved it. It will take a willing administration and the right coach.

Might want to check those ACC records of barnes and purnell before you start throwing out the word great. We were good at times, but never great. Barnes had less talent, but did more with it. But all three have similar con records i would imagine. % wise

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would say if we come within 3 points that'll be fine***

with this team, why would you even expect to win a game

Mar 11, 2017, 7:39 PM

Much less a tournament

Re: with this team, why would you even expect to win a game

Mar 11, 2017, 8:01 PM

It's not Duke or UNC anymore Brad. Put up or shut up. These NIT opponents should be very beatable. If you can't beat them, how can we expect better next season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What have you been taking?

Mar 11, 2017, 9:17 PM

"Eyelash"?? We were blown out in at least two games in which it looked like we gave up. The other games, we exhibited poor overall defense and rebounding, which will net many losses for a team that has pretty good offensive players. We aren't near good enough to win the NIT. You've been listening to Walt and other whiners too much. We're not a good basketball team.

I am going to TRY and watch every game we get to play in the NIT. I hope we win them all. I do NOT have ANY expectations though.
