80s Clemson flashback

You get flashbacks a lot when you get well into your fifties and
thinking about the "good ole days". It was 1983, my thoughts were
short and my hair was long... (Kid Rock reference). Anyway, the
girl in the pic sitting on the far right, a cheerleader, I remember
seeing around campus. Her name is Sherry Thrift; I believe her family
owned Thrift Brothers Construction in Seneca. She was kind of a small
girl, but extremely cute. I wasn't a stalker or anything but a casual
admirer at football and basketball games. And I know, she's probably
somebody's mom and maybe even grandma by now. Anyone else remember her?



One slightly humorous story i remember like it was yesterday. A couple
of buddies and I used to hang out at Fike a lot at the expense of studying.
We'd play a lot of pickup basketball; saw Murray Jarman a few times playing
pickup and intramural before joining the basketball team. We'd work out,
sometimes with the big studs at the dungeon at the bottom of the hill until
we'd get run out for no membership. Occasionally we'd go to the pool. One
day we were in there and Sherry and another really cute girl walked in.
Immediately, every guy in the place, self included, starts sucking their guts
in. It was so funny. They walked to the far side of the pool and talk to a
couple other cute girls for quite awhile. We all got tired of trying to look
buff and act cool so we jumped in the water and continued our discreet admiration.
Good times.

Smith who was Miss SC & runner up Miss America in the 80s
and whose younger sister Sheri was abducted from the front
yard of their family home and killed by a deranged psycho?
There was also a movie about it with William Devane as the
county sheriff.
