about the new $100 challenge.

Wife of and I are thinking about doing it.

Feed your family breakfast lunch and dinner with $100 per week.

(alcohol not included 7spots, or at least for me)

Who's in?

Edit: Made some clarifications

My kids hate fast food and restaurants. Lunch is PB&J every day.

Done.

You should try the Citadel Food challenge

Sep 18, 2019, 12:22 PM

Feed your family meals in the citadel mess hall for 1 week and see if you come out on the other end OK.

Nah the school sucks

Sep 18, 2019, 1:52 PM

It's a far cry from where it was even 20 years ago. #### poor leadership from the administration in conjunction with skyrocketing costs. It's a $15-20k/year school at best, not the $25-30k for in state, not to mention the $50k+ out of state cost.

Sep 18, 2019, 12:41 PM

Some weeks we have to add #### to the grocery list just to hit the $30 minimum (whatever the number is WifeofAyejoe is in charge of this) for pickup orders. Then probably do about $100 once a month at Costco on steak/chicken/poke chops to vacuum seal and freeze meal sized portions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sep 18, 2019, 12:56 PM

easily

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see how that is possible. 1 meal out per day for 2

Sep 18, 2019, 1:02 PM

people is about $20/day which is $140/week and does not include 28 individual meals.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So split that in two.

Sep 18, 2019, 1:06 PM

yesterday I had a salad and drink from Verde; that was like $12. then last night I had some microwave chicken thing. Today I had a 3 pointer from Chipotle and a drink, and that was $7.70. Prob won't eat tonight. On Saturdays I'll normally only eat once in the afternoon. The time i save not cleaning up afterwards is worth whatever it costs.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you aren't including your wife? That makes alot

Sep 18, 2019, 1:07 PM

more sense. I thought you meant the two of you can almost do that.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope, just me.

Sep 18, 2019, 1:08 PM

She's on her own with food.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gotcha. That is like $14.25 per day which is much more

Sep 18, 2019, 1:10 PM

manageable, especially if you only eat one meal a day sometimes.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

food to me is kinda like gas in my boat.

Sep 18, 2019, 1:14 PM

Food is probably the cheapest thing I spend money on. Gas in my boat is the cheapest thing I spend on the boat.

Drinking however, adds significantly to the budget. Going the local bar down the street has become a payment.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everybody in your house...

Sep 18, 2019, 3:09 PM [ in reply to I eat out (lulz) almost every day and hit below that number ]

that's the challenge.

For me that comes out to 0.79 cents per person per meal.

Sep 18, 2019, 1:05 PM

have to eat for $2.38 per person per meal for the week to achieve that. This doesn't include kids. Good luck with that.

School lunch is $2.35/meal and insufficient for an adult.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You eat too much.

Sep 18, 2019, 1:07 PM

I haven't had 3 meals a day since...I don't think i ever have. I'd be as fat as a house if I ate that much.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gonna be a lot of rice and beans

Sep 18, 2019, 1:10 PM [ in reply to 2 people for a week is 42 individual meals. That means you ]

buying whatever is deep discounted at the grocery store meat wise because it's about to go out of date. Cook it all that night then refrigerate/freeze it.

Do a crockpot meal at least once per week. A meatless meal once per week. Leftovers one night.

I think it can be done. We shall see.
