I have followed this site for many years....I joined IPTAY when it was still $20-30! First time posting! Let's look at the schedules for three teams, USC-Columbia, Alabama and Clemson. Chickens: Played 8 bowl teams during the year, winning 2 of them. Had zero wins over winning teams on the road. Massey Ratings had their schedule ranked 15th toughest.
Tide: Played 10 bowl teams (yes, Arkansas St and Louisiana went to bowls!). Record was 9-1. Only had three of those on the road, LSU, SEC championship and first playoff. Massey had their schedule ranked as 1st, or toughest.
Tigers: Played 12 bowl games, winning all of them (obviously). Played 13 teams with winning record. Seven of their bowl team wins were on the road! Massey had their rating at number 2.
Both teams (Clemson & Alabama) played bad teams, with both playing Louisville. Other patsies (Massey Rating 60 or higher) on the schedule for Tide were Arkansas St, Citadel, Louisiana. Clemson played Furman, Florida St, and Georgia Southern. Looking at those patsies, Clemson's were better... Furman > Citadel, Fl St > Ark St, Ga South > Louisiana.
Chickens played 4 patsies, all worse than the other two schools, and over half of their wins for the season: Coastal Carolina, Akron, Mississippi, and Chattanooga.
To make a long story short, Clemson and Alabama played very similar schedules, and Alabama's was no more, if not less, grueling than Clemson's. And the chickens have no say in how tough Clemson's schedule was.
So, can we put this weak schedule thing for Clemson to rest?
