Yep, Brits by a nose here too.
Lots of smaller bands in there too, but they all have a smaller catalog of work. For a list like this, I think “if you could have the work of 5 bands on a desert island with you and that’s it....”

head whereas wife-of would take chilrens to stay with sis in Charleston and I would embark on a solo mission...get a room at one of the crap hotels by the Windjammer...go to see the show, get drunk, and walk to room and crash.
Was actually going to send you a note to see if you were interested in attending said drunken show.
Also thinking of similar plan to see The Next Move there on July 18...but thinking there is a strong chance that will be cancelled as well.

as you mention, quantity is a larger factor.
as an example: personally, Sex Pistols are def one of my faves, but they have a very limited catalog (just one "official" album). Bad choice. For DID purposes, I might choose someone like Sammy Hagar because you have Montrose, Van Halen, and all his solo stuff, literally hundreds of songs.

Desert island. 5 bands’ entire catalog to take with you. Could be the only music you hear for the rest of your life. Who gets the nod?

for a multi-faceted consumer of music. They move around according to season, circumstance, mood, etc.
The single "fer sure" is Thin Lizzy is on my list, the one that will never fade. Ever since I ordered a Thin Lizzy LP from my momma's Columbia Record House membership as a young naive lad - she let me choose the final one of her "12 albums for the price of 1" and that's the one I picked simply because it sounded like a cool name for a band, sight unheard. What a glorious, precocious choice I made. I burned all my Banana Splits 45s the next day. Boy became a man.
40+ years a Lizzy fan. Along with many others of note.

What’s with all these people listing pretty to really good

Bands and then throwing the Doors on there? The Doors are a band you like when you’re 15 because you think you’re supposed to like them, but then you start listening to the songs deeper and realize just how crappy Morrison’s lyrics were and how most of the synth-work sounds like a circus calliope and one day you’re like “ok, moving on now. Thanks For the memories Jim...see you again at a drunken karaoke night in college.”

I give you Peace Frog.
It’s a great jam. Got a good beat. You can tap your feet to it. Blood on the streets town of Chicago blood on the rise it’s following me. Vague, Sure, but hey you’re just jammin.
Then, right in the middle everything (except for one thing) that’s wrong with the doors: Jim Morrison’s outsized drug addled ego lays this #### on You:
Indians scattered on dawn’s highway bleeding, Ghosts crowd the young child’s fragile mind.
Jim Morrison would later explain, when talking about the poem that he wrote from which those lines were taken, that it was about something that happened when he was a kid where a truck full of Indians got hit by a car and were scattered all over the highway bleeding. His take away?
“A child is like a flower man, head in the clouds.”
So, in the event that you always listened to that and thought Jim was laying some deeply metaphorical truth on you, now you know that he was just literally describing something he saw when he was a kid.
I think Dennis Hopper‘s character in Apocalypse now was intentionally making fun of Jim Morrison. Just a theory.
Oh, and also, any band that does not have an actual bassist is Garbage.

but they are more of a party band to me than a top five band. I think if I had to pick a band to live on a desert island with and I couldn't take the 80's gogos or bangles, I'd probably take the Foo Fighters.
