Said it years ago and was flamed for it....

Nov 21, 2014, 3:48 PM

Letting Oliver Purnell get away was the death certificate for this basketball program.

Until we get a coach in here that can recruit and runs an offense that attracts ATHLETES we will continue to struggle.

OP's offense was perfect for a program like Clemson in the ACC. The best "basketball players" in our region will always go to Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and many other good to mediocre programs before Clemson.

No offense to Brownell, I realize he doesn't have a whole lot to work with but he will never be successful with the type of game he plays at Clemson.

I think there is some truth in that

Nov 21, 2014, 3:50 PM

I like BB, and I think he's a very good coach... but OP played a style that allowed Clemson to compete. It was an equalizer...

It will be tough to compete in the new ACC when your system relies on needing high IQ bball players.

I hope he can turn it around.

Hey bud, what's OP's record at DePaul?

Nov 21, 2014, 3:51 PM

And you're right, a school with no history or tradition shouldn't rely on a stout defense and slower tempo.

Oh wait, yes you do.

I love how you dumpers always come out of the woodwork during losses BUT give no feedback on who you would hire to replace him etc.

Really sows your basketball IQ.

Who cares what his record is at DePaul?

What was his record at Clemson?

yea... that makes no sense...

It makes perfect sense, he was the Bowden of basketball

Nov 21, 2014, 3:58 PM

He took us to the tournament to do what..flame out faster than he was there.

The press is gimmicky, the only teams you can beat are undisciplined or unprepared ones.

Trevor Booker masked his lack of offensive game plan, surprising he left a little after him?

You're exactly right. I don't see how anyone can question Purnell as a coach. He garnered a lot of respect in the ACC. Teams knew his teams were well coached and would play anyone tough. This is the 5th year with BB, I don't see it happening.

Big coaching difference in Pitino and OP

And when you still bring in cream of the crop talent.

You could run the press, motion offense, or freaking shoot 3's all game and win if you recruit with the best.

Hell, even though he was under OP, Smart is on another level than OP.

Nov 21, 2014, 3:57 PM [ in reply to Hey bud, what's OP's record at DePaul? ]

OP taught the style of play to VCU coach and he is doing okay. Maybe DePaul would be better with BB? I like BB but talent is bad. He needs a good 5-6yrs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Letting OP go..

Nov 21, 2014, 3:55 PM

was a death certificate to us when he leaves us in the middle of the night and put no effort in recruiting in his last year?

He left Brownell with NOTHING, that's why we are still rebuilding with sub par talent.

We are finally signing 4 stars and true talent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody "let" Purnell go......

I still think we traded up and will be better in the long run. OP did not develop guys where could jump early to the NBA. Disappointing, yes but if KJ was still here , we are 3-0.
