What thinks You?

Paul Fine said today that’s the way it’s going down AND Dabo will not replace him & Smart either.

The championship goes thru CLEMSON. Dabo will break the Bear's record before Saban does.

Bama is always going to be tough because of how they recruit, but they aren't what they were. They were an 11-2 team last year; they look like about a 10-win team this year. I think they come back to the SEC pack some.

Their staff turnover has been insane, mostly because Nick Saban is apparently The Devil Wears Prada to work for. They've lost both coordinators just about every year for the last several years, and more than half their position coaches for at least the last three, a lot of them for horizontal moves (for less money!) at other schools. Saban also just lost his long-time S&C guy, Scott Cochran, to UGA...the high school coaches I knew all raved about the guy, thought he was the gold standard in strength and conditioning.

That attrition isn't limited to coaches. The Tide are a stepping-stone school. Guys go to Alabama because it gets them to the NFL...and they go as fast as they can. You just do not see guys like CJ Spiller or Travis Etienne or Christian Wilkins coming back as they so often do at Clemson because they either have unfinished business or want to graduate, and there's always a fair number of Bama players in the transfer portal.

So they've got a much younger roster than Clemson, a lot less accumulated experience, and the guys coaching them are themselves learning Alabama's system...and their culture isn't as good from a standing start.

The Tide make up for that - some - with often overwhelming talent, but again, the draft is going to gut them this year, and they could see as many as seven guys - repeat (7)! - drafted in the first round: QB Tua Tagovailoa, WR Jerry Jeudy, WR Henry Ruggs, DT Raekwon Davis, S Xavier McKinney, OL Alex Leatherwood, and WR Devonta Smith. Some will probably drop because draft stock is always fluid, but whatever - they're losing an absolute truckload of talent again this year and even Alabama can't reload that fast.

They're not really likely to win the national title with the immobile Mac Jones at QB and all those WR's gone, especially since their D looked a lot more mortal this past year. Like I said, this is still a really good team, but a national title contender? I'm doubtful. They're starting to get that FSU-in-Bobby-Bowden's-later-years sort of feel.

I don’t know - LBB ... Maybe Fine is right .. but Saban just doesn’t seem much like the retiring type to me ... and leave that uber million dollar a year job ... -<img border=">

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

I completely disagree.

Health issues aside, no way Saban retires after this year, whatever happens. He has too much gas left in the tank. What might make him retire in 2 years is consecutive seasons where they are well below his standard.

Missing the CFP 3 years straight could give Saban enough pause to shut it down after the 2021 season.
