SMU - Chad Morris

Sep 9, 2014, 12:17 PM

Not surprising Morris already listed as an early consideration for 2015 for SMU job.

I can already tell you've been a great addition to Tigernet***

Re: SMU - Chad Morris

Not positive but I can see this as a possible fit considering Texas is not happening anytime soon, Texas Tech has their guy and A&M has Sumlin... SMU is good opportunity to build from nothing to national prominence, they are looking terrible this year.

Anyone else agree or am I out in left field ?

Morris is good but there are tons of coaches who vie for these jobs. Morris cannot just point and choose.

Sep 9, 2014, 12:58 PM [ in reply to If that is true... ]

Once his daughter graduates form high school, if some schools form the Power 5 conferences don't come calling, he may re-evaluate his criteria but until then, I don't think he would seriously consider a school like SMU.

There is no question that Coach Morris will be a head coach at the collegiate level on day. That said, I seriously doubt he would leave Clemson to become the head coach at a perennial doormat like SMU.

Gotta start somewhere...

Sep 9, 2014, 12:25 PM

June Jones had 'em in bowl games four years in a row, so they have some winning culture in place.

Most seem to think he is a logical choice for a team in that region. SMU is just as good a job as any of the other non-power 5 teams there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's only logical because of his ties to Texas***

Gus Malzahn went to Arkansas St. Worked out pretty good for him.

Texas Tech didn't not meet any demands Morris wanted. He would have gone their in a heartbeat. They just chose somebody they thought fit them better and never offered Morris the job.

Tim Brando talked about the SMU job this morning on his show and he said that he was hearing for his sources that SMU will most likely try to make a run at Derek Dooley or Houston Nutt. He went on to say that SMU wants someone with head coaching experience and doesn't want to go the coordinator route.
