For an Auburn guy, he is the biggest Saban fanboy. Just embarassing.

Can you picture Saban tolerating a question on some 4 year old practice field incident that has already been handled?

He is an $EC shill and knows where his bread is buttered. I had dinner with him 2 years ago along with some clients. He said as much to me. Can’t fault the guy, he just caters his dialogue to the paying audience.

That's the default answer for SEC homers.
Im sure he came to that conclusion after hours of exhaustive research.

Firstly, I've got to admit that I've never heard of Chuck Oliver before but everyone is entitled to their own opinion; (even buffoonish ones).
Secondly, who gives a rip what this guy thinks about any subject?

I’ve listened to his show for about 5 years now. He heaps praise on Clemson regularly. Does he lean SEC? Yea a little but he shoots straighter than any other multi state sindicated host I’ve heard. I like that he talks college football only and he does it 52 weeks a year.
I listen to his podcast and just skip if he does a segment on miss st or Arkansas.

But he will never pick us vs Bama, all things being relatively equal. He has admitted as much.
Prior to the 44-16 Bama #### whippin and especially before 2016, he was all-in on the 'Clemsoning' snide BS. Really made fun of Clemson during the Bowden years, but we mostly deserved it.
He does put out a lot of good content.

I'd feel better about ours being #1 if we had more continuity in the WR Corp.
Also, we've never had the #1 offense so we probably won't this year either.

We don't have the No. 1 offense...

because the coaches bench the starters and substitute liberally early in the 3rd quarter. A lot of other programs don't do that. Even in one-sided blow-out wins, other programs play their starters well into the 4th quarter. It's a deliberate attempt to pad their stats.

of it. To finish with the #1 offense there really needs to be either a desire or necessity for it, and we've really had neither. I wouldn't say OU under Riley has been padding stats, but they've certainly needed that offense to overcome their defense.

Nobody in that league plays defense so a bunch of those teams always seem to have gaudy offensive numbers.

Traditionally, these ‘high powered’ offenses are paired with pretty crappy defenses. So they have to score a lot (and keep starters on the field) in order to ward off being outscored. Similar scenario to why Tajh had such ridiculously high stats at Clemson- our defense struggled most of the time and he had to stay in the game and score 60 if we wanted to win.
It does seem that the CFP era has brought more emphasis placed on ‘style points’. it is assumed that beating the snot out of people and margin of victory could help a teams case for CFP. While there may be some truth here, I think our method of getting increases playing time for backups has proven to be a better strategy.

Dominance should mean *something* but you have to
Sep 5, 2020, 10:20 AM
|
|
place an emphasis on the correct things to properly measure dominance. I like how many of the advanced metrics now filter out garbage time stats. For example, this is how Bill Connolly defines "garbage time" for his SP+ All first quarter plays count, no matter the score. Garbage time doesn’t kick in until a team is up 36 in the second quarter. Garbage time doesn’t kick in until a team is up 26 in the third quarter. Garbage time doesn’t kick in until a team is up 20 in the fourth quarter.
So if Team A is beating Team B 28-7 going into the 4th quarter and leaves their starters in to score 21 more points, none of those 4th q stats will be counted in his ratings because Team A triggered garbage time as soon as the 4th quarter began by leading by 20+ points.

I’d ask him who Bama’s starting QB is because the kid who ended last year didn’t play very good. Tua’s brother left and I think after that it might be the true freshman. Offense run through the QB and I don’t have faith in the ones they have.

They have blue chip FR Bryce Young there
Sep 3, 2020, 11:26 PM

if Mac Jones doesn't work out. Young was #2 in the 247 composite last year (just behind Bresee) and more highly rated than DJU (#10).

Bo Nix was the number 1 duel threat QB in the 2019 class per 247 yet still looked like @$$ last year. If the kid had a year of experience I’d give him more respect but every top ranked freshman QB aren’t/can’t be DW4 or TLaw.

they won't be trotting some stiff out there. I also don't think they will have the #1 offense, but i would bet that they do have a good one.

I don't see Saban starting a freshman QB...

unless it's out of necessity.
Jones will be the starter IMO. He gained a wealth of experience last year filling in for Tua. Jones played in 12 games last year including 4 starts.
Harris also returns at RB. Bama also returns four of five starters on the offensive line, so whoever emerges as the starting QB will be handing the ball off A LOT.
Bama will be a run first team, but they do return two really good WR's in DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.

Hurts started most of the season for them as a true FR in 2016 though so it wouldn't be unprecedented for Young to take over.

Bryce Young is quicker than a hiccup and will really stress a defense but his passing ability probably lags a little behind his legs right now. You know they have talent stacked every bit as deep as the Tigers. It will depend on which team can add a few wrinkles to the bread and butter - assuming the bread and butter is up to standards.
