Most electric moment for you in Death Valley???

Jun 18, 2020, 9:06 AM

“We Will Rock You!” 2009 vs FSU. I used to have it DVR’ed, and would watch it just to feel those chills again. When we upgraded to a new box, I actually archived it to DVD.

I forget what game it was, but when lightning hit the north stands light tower I could feel the electricity run through my body.

H3ll of a game for sure

Jun 18, 2020, 10:50 AM

As I recall, we were heavy underdogs for this game, and the coots
came in expecting to whip up pretty bad.
My Dad and I were tailgating before the game, and a student was
going through the lot selling a bumper sticker of a chicken on a
toilet, and the caption read, "Ever see a chickensh*t". I laughed
and bought two.
After Willie's int, I turned to my dad and said - We just saw a chickensh*t.
I drove us home with one bumper sticker on my car, and other I took to
work for my office.

Either Willie Underwood's pick 6 against the Gamecocks in 1980-81 or the #@&$# puntrooskie against FSU in 1988.
Both times I thought I was going to pass out.

You might be referring to the 2011 game and not 2009...

Jun 18, 2020, 9:34 AM

2011 was the close game where we stopped FSU near the end by sacking Trickett and they played we will rock you between timeouts and plays. Seems like the announcer (maybe Blackledge) commented on the crowd and that Clemson was as good a place as any for a game.

Re: You might be referring to the 2011 game and not 2009...

Jun 18, 2020, 10:31 AM

2009 was a grind of a year. We lost heart breakers at GT, home to TCU, and then on the road to the Terps. ?? We did beat the ‘Canes in their house in OT, probably our biggest win that year (I think they were top ten). And though we would finish with a rough trip to Columbia, a second loss to GT, and a less than glamorous win over UK in the bowl game, we finally played for an ACC title. And we played our butts off - Spiller had the game of his life ... They just showed the reply on ACCN. But the 2009 FSU game... it was a close game for 3 quarters and the Tigers kicked the flippin’ door in during the 4th quarter. I think the final was 40-24, but when it was clear that FSU was done... 80K decked in orange sing-screaming “We Will Rock You!” - And then erupting with the guitar solo... DUDE... chills all over. We had all but clinched the Atlantic and it just felt like THE “All-in” game of the Dabo era... in those chills, a belief that it was just the beginning.

1977 first game of the year against #10 Maryland right before the end of the half. Rex Varn picks off Mark Manges inside the 10 and goes 93 yards to tie it up. Manges was on the cover of SI’s preseason preview. I looked it up and attnendance was only 44,000 but it was electric - maybe because it was uncertain he could make it all the way to the end zone. That moment signaled a new era of Clemson football - they could compete with great teams.

Rod Gardner catch in 2000

Jun 18, 2020, 10:02 AM

and the field goal by Aaron Hunt. I was in the lower south stands when the lamecocks recovered the fumble in the endzone for the go ahead touchdown. It should have been recovered by Clemson for a turnover but they got a real lucky bounce and it went right into their hands in the endzone.

When they scored there were small groups of shamecock fans all around jumping up and down all happy. When Rod caught the ball the stadium was deafening. But the best part was the field goal. The way we knew it was good was the fans on the hill jumped up and started screaming as soon as they saw it was going to be good. I just remember them jumping up and down and then the whole stadium screaming.

Defending national champ GT came to town in September. We were ranked #7.
GT’s kicker Scott Sisson, who was known for clutch kicks, lines up and misses a last minute field goal.
We win 9-7.

Notre Dame at Clemson - 1977.

Explosion when the team ran down the hill. Up to that point you could hear a pin drop as the crowd and band participated in a silent out. Even pre-game the band marched but did not play. The crowd pretended to clap their hands over their heads but didn't make any noise. So awesome.
