Roby could be out for the Orange Bowl

Dec 30, 2013, 11:07 AM

Roby is their best cover corner, and the designated defender for watkins

wonder what this means for their strategy

Will they try to put a lot of pressure on Boyd so that their DBs don't have to cover for long, or will they still with what we were expecting (deep safeties and press- man on the outside) to limit big plays and to frustrate Boyd?

They'll probably do what nc state, bc, South Carolina, and FSU did; pressure Boyd. The offensive line better be ready.

How'd that work for most of those folks?

Not very well. Here are Boyd's stats in those games:

NCSt: 24/ 37, 244 yds, 3 TDs
BC: 30/ 44, 334 yds, 1 TD
SC: 19/ 27, 225 yds, 0 TD, 2 int's (Most would argue that those int's never happen without earlier turnovers. It's also worth noting how many yards were left on the field because of turnovers on special teams [Boyd was right around his average of 9 yds/ attempt], and that Boyd's completion percentage in this game was higher than his completion percentage for the year despite the two interceptions)
FSU: 17/ 37, 156 yds, 1 TD, 2 ints

So in games where you say people put "pressure [on] Boyd," he completed over 62% of his passes with 5 TDs and 4 int's. I'd say that's pretty good considering how awful the FSU game was and the fact that Boyd threw 2 garbage int's against SC.

I agree that putting pressure on Boyd is important, but the FSU game shows that having great athletes in the secondary is equally as important. Otherwise, Boyd will do what he did against BC, NCSt, LSU, and most of the game against SC.

Clicked on that link, started reading the posts, and thought I had returned to Tigernet. Lot of haters for a team that has lost one game in two years.

Wow! Are they down on their team or what

Maybe they're just trying to pump up the Tigers and play the underdog.

Either way, I hope the Tigers can put some points on the board in this OB.

I'm confident the defense will do their part.
