Rivals rumors coaching moves on Clemson D ... any truth

Jan 28, 2016, 2:00 AM

there? Or just trying to stir something up?

Here's the comment buried in an article on Gary:

Clemson
Clemson has a proven track record of recruiting top-flight defensive linemen, so Gary’s interest seemed only natural. He has family that lives a stone’s throw from campus and really likes the people, players and coaches. Brent Venables and the defensive staff have done a tremendous job of making it clear that Gary should be a Clemson Tiger. Two things concern Gary and his family as they head into their final official visit.
The first is whether or not the coaching staff is stable. There is some concern that one of the defensive coaches could leave for another job. The second concern is playing time. Former five-star Christian Wilkins had a breakout freshman season and Clemson also has a commitment from this year’s Rivals100 No. 2 prospect Dexter Lawrence, a defensive tackle from North Carolina. The way the Clemson staff responds to those questions will go a long way to determining if they have a real shot at landing Gary’s commitment and making sure this last official visit isn’t just a glorified trip to see family.

“Clemson wasn’t that much better with Trevor Lawrence, if at all.”

So he's going to write an article making the coach of his team look bad?

He didn't write an article making little spur look bad, he insinuated a Clemson coach was leaving the defense and gave no specifics.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

how does that article make muschamp look bad?***

Journalism has been an unscrupulous ,cess pool, liars club..

Jan 28, 2016, 4:06 AM

for decades now. All types of journalism share a common denominator; they are educated by leftists, in most cases, extreme leftists; who cringe when they hear words like, morality & principle. If you think sports journalism is immune to this; you are mistaken. ESPN is a nest of bleeding heart liberals.

It's about money. It IS NOT sports journalism, it is sports entertainment m

Ramble on , say what has to be said to generate followers. Turn that membership into advertising dollars.

It has nothing to do with integrity, it is show bidness. Not show integrity. There isn't a dag gum difference between Fox, nbc, abc, or espn.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Absolutely

Jan 28, 2016, 7:35 AM

Truth has little to do with it. It is about generating hits to your site and/or viewership. Nothing more nothing less.

No, lefties don't really believe the $hit they spew. It's do as I say and not as I do. They're all about the dollar as well.

Win for him. Does not matter if it's true. I clicked on it. That's all he wanted.

IMO, I don't see anyone going anywhere until Scott/Elliott get a bigger gig. Thank goodness CBV seems very happy at CU as well. He does seem like a lifelong DC IMHO....just that grit about him, idk. Other than CBV, this was a good bit of internal upward movement in responsibilities, especially on O after CCM left. Dabo knows what he wants, and it seems to work pretty well; recruit and coach evaluation are proven!

Re: Rivals rumors coaching moves on Clemson D ... any truth

Jan 28, 2016, 4:51 AM

Anytime a program is doing well, there is always the possibility that a coach could leave for a HC job. Everyone was worried when CCM left for SMU and it seems to have worked out fine. As mentioned already, just a media writer trying to make much ado about nothing.

It's not a rumor--it's just general speculation

Jan 28, 2016, 7:46 AM

You could say that about any coaching staff in the country. There's always a chance any coach could leave for another job. Not sure why Clemson is unique in this regard.

In fact, we have an incredibly stable staff. Dabo does a good job balancing young, up-and-coming types with old-timers who are not gunning for the next opening or pay raise.

With the way Venables has coached the D...

Jan 28, 2016, 7:48 AM

over the past few seasons, I have to believe if he keeps producing top ranked defenses and our program stays consistent, that a head coaching position will be offered to him sometime in the next 4 years. I think that is what the article may be referencing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He has been offered multiple D1 head coaching opportunities

Jan 28, 2016, 8:19 AM

he says he is not interested and that he is happy at Clemson

and this article is the reason I never waste my time reading articles by the regional or national Rivals "analyst". They simply do not know the teams and can't comment on them with any intelligence.

It's what other coaches are saying to negative recruit us.

Jan 28, 2016, 9:05 AM

Venables is the best in the business. Of course they can say that but we all know it's not true.

Wait, the #1 player in the country is concerned he won't be

Jan 28, 2016, 9:12 AM

able to get on the field? I call BS on that. We are loaded at DT next year, but if Gary commits, he will play, and play a lot. Whether we move him around between DT and DE or just rotate him in with the DT, playing time won't be a concern.
