By the end of the ND game we were down 9 players either preseason projected starters or started a game this year. Down 5 on offense!

Exactly! Started the game minus QB on O and D

True freshman QB 2nd start, on the road, at one of the most storied places in CFB. We get everyone healthy and we’ll be back to GT whoop-a$$ level. We need a deep threat to take pressure of ETN and Rodgers. Powell has been a pleasant surprise and proved to be a new weapon when we get back to full strength. 2OT loss to the now #2 team is not the end of the world.

I was referring to the positive attention that Bama gets from the press.

ESPN actually said today they no one in the top 4 had a stellar defense. They’re right, right now at least.

Who's saying we have a "poor" defense?

Nov 11, 2020, 10:24 AM

If they are saying we don't have the usual dominant Clemson defense, they are 100% correct. And it's not all injury-related. The injuries are certainly hurting us right now, but this isn't going to be a dominant unit even with everyone healthy. It could turn into a good unit with everyone healthy, but not dominant. We have issues at LB and safety beyond just missing Skalski and Jones. We are having issues getting pressure on QBs (again) that just getting Tyler Davis back will not fix. Based on last year, I don't believe XT is a silver bullet either. Having him back in the rotation getting a solid amount of snaps will help, but it won't be like getting a Lawson or Ferrell back.

I do expect us to get stouter against the run with Davis and Skalski back, but we have some guys at LB and safety that are a bit stiff and slow, and just poor in the open field. I've seen so many bad angles, missed tackles, and guys just getting juked out of their shoes or looking like they are stuck in quick sand this year, and I don't think that's getting fixed this season.

I wish i could say our offense is good enough to overcome a slightly down defensive unit, but right now the offensive line is putting a bit of a ceiling on our offensive potential. It's going to be very tough to keep up with a team like Alabama on the score board if we are completely 1-dimensional and our only way to utilize our most explosive player is in the short passing game.
