Ribs on the grill or smoker which is the best for you?

Nov 13, 2020, 1:04 PM

I use my smoker and grill for ribs. I do them very different on each. On the smoker I use a rub with brown sugar and may or may not add sauce about half way through. On the grill I use BBQ sauce on the ribs then wrap in tin foil and bake in oven on 250 then finish them on the grill with smoke and sauce.
They are both very good but a little different. Thoughts or comments?

;)

I love my ribs cooked in a PBC - which is a LDR version of a UDS.

I pretty much agree but I use the oven then the grill. I want mine falling off the bone. Letting them cook in their own juices is the way to go wrapped.

Boil them and then slather them with some BBQ sauce packets

I have left over from my last McDonalds chicken nuggy run.

I’d say there’s a time and a place for both.

I’ve always been an offset smoker guy, but just bought a Traeger Ironwood 885 and Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 that we’re gonna test out this weekend. I’m getting lazy in my old age, so gonna try the “set it and forget it” options.

Planning to do around 16 racks of ribs and see which system I like more.

That is the best way to do it. Cook them to your taste. My wife loves the BBQ sauce I make. When I meet her they never did any BBQ so I guess mine was the first one she ever tasted but I like most all of them.

pellet smoker for me...

Nov 13, 2020, 3:53 PM

use a mix of apple and cherry pellets

275F for 2 hours spraying with apple cider vinegar twice

wrap and 2 more hours at 275F

Let rest

slice and enjoy

I know folks who go lower temp at 225F and go for longer...I think 275F for 4 hrs gets the best results in terms of not being too dried out.

Normally do a dry rub and just apply a warm sauce which if wife-of's preference. If she's not in the equation, I'll normally crank smoker up to 450F and sauce them over heat.
