Reporting a rumor is not legitimate journalism ...

Nov 29, 2016, 4:27 PM

Dabo is right!

Clemson was smeared in the press by the one-sided stories reporting the comments claiming racism made by the South Carolina player ... this was at best irresponsible and at worst was totally unethical.

Irresponsible journalists should be disciplined. Unethical journalists should be fired.

Those who defend the right of the media to fashion a news story around a hearsay accusation of racism by a disgruntled player from a losing team in a heated rivalry, are guilty of blindly defending what was once identified by the derogatory term "Yellow Journalism"!

By reporting the accusation, they gave it credibility and those who read the story form their opinion based on the one perspective presented.

Sadly, there are very few legitimate journalists in the profession today. There is massive bias and deliberate inaccuracy in so much of what passes for reporting.

And equally sad is the willingness of the public to take what they write or say seriously.

Have no doubt ... Clemson was smeared by the press this past weekend and Dabo is right to voice his disdain regarding the situation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_journalism

Yellow journalism, or the yellow press, is a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers.[1] Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering or sensationalism.[1] By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.[2]

The State is not concerned about legitimate journalism ...

Nov 29, 2016, 4:32 PM

They were simply trying to derogate or diminish the epic beat down CussChamp and his WormPullers suffered at the hands of Clemson on Saturday night.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

YouTube is a better news source than The State.

Better than most print newspapers, actually.

There's something in these hills.

Agree. All the media in Columbia went WAY off the track in the early 1990's when they joined the SEC. I know a lot of long time subscribers to The State who suddenly found a paper without even an attempt to cover the other team in the state who told them hell no when they were asked to subscribe again. The radio and TV stations followed the same biased path.

Unfortunately, that is what they do nowadays. Throw something out there and hope it sticks.

there is NO freedom of the press to defame someone...

Nov 29, 2016, 4:59 PM

the Supreme Court has been very clear on this:

an individual's right to freedom supersedes the freedom of the press.
