Buttigieg.
Both he and Kamala conceded after the South Carolina primary and endorsed Biden, but Buttigieg had been running neck-and-neck with Bernie (and well ahead of Biden) until then. Usually when that happens there's a deal cut - be it a Cabinet position or some political marker that translates into a significant endorsement down the line.
He definitely didn't do it for free. You can probably figure Kamala is where she is at least partially for the same reason. I don't know if he promised her the VP spot but you'd better believe he promised her camp she'd be high up on the list.
Best guess is the two formed an unofficial line of succession behind Biden. You can definitely see Mayor Pete floating around in some as-yet-to-be-determined-but-obviously-significant future role in the Biden administration. That Poppa Joe might not make it through his first term would not have been a major mystery to anyone.

Q,
Joe will serve his entire first term and serve well. Then he will step aside - for Harris - although knowing the Dems like I do, she will likely have some real primary challengers in 2024.
I would really like to see Buttigieg get some national level experience. I have come to appreciate his positions more and more, but I think he needs more experience. Hopefully he will get it in the next 4 years.

sorry, but older black voters are as homophobic as their white boomer counterparts. In fact homosexuaity is more forwned upon in the black community than it is among whites, we are talking about fathers disowning their sons and the like.
