why does the defensive backfield play so soft

Nov 24, 2012, 11:17 PM

why does the defensive backfield play so soft on everybody? They play off by at least 10 years... it's so easy for any team to march down the field in 6-10 plays on our guys.

I have to say we just don't have much talent in the backfield. We do have some injuries so maybe that played a part, but I am not personally sold on any of our experienced DB's. I think Blanks will be fine once he has a full time position next year. I also think our lack of a pass rush doesn't help. We have nobody that causes the QB to fear them. Clowney was clearly in Boyd's head tonight. I think Beasley has a great future if he can put on a little weight, but I am not really impressed with Crawford in terms of a consistent pass rush. He isn't quick enough to me, but maybe he will pick it up since he is still young. Also, Goodman has been a huge disappointment. He may go down as one of the biggest head scratchers in Clemson history. He looks the part but it doesn't translate to the field. I hate to say it because I like the guy and think he represents Clemson very well.

We have no pass rushers.

We have to blitz to get pressure.

They are slow and yet compound it by being dumb

It's a double wammy. We play them in bump and our safeties can't cover over the top. We play soft and our corners can't drive on the ball. I'm a little tired of the run down 10 yards and turn around route that we can't seem to figure out.
