Top 10 thoughts after rewatching the Chickfila win over LSU
Aug 12, 2013, 9:36 AM

1. Mike Patrick SUCKS and if for no other reason than to make him look like a STUPID SEC homer I am glad we won! 2. 2 missed tackles almost cost us the game (after early fumble and after second half kickoff)... just can't give up easy touchdowns and expect to win games. 3. We won WITHOUT Sammy, who the gameplan was specifically designed around. 4. GREAT job of coaching by Chad to improvise, see point 3 above. 5. We were also without Martavis (which seemingly will turn out to be a great thing). With Sammy and Bryant I think we would have won by 3 td's. 6. THANK YOU to our entire D, from BV down to every man who lined up that night... gives me great hope for this season, but being real, I have to wonder how much of that game was great D and how much was a pretty flst and sorry O. 7. If we had Sammy for that game then Nuk would not have had his MONSTER game (THANK YOU NUK!!!) on National TV, meaning he very well may have been back in Orange this fall. 8. If Nuk was back on the team this year I think we would be getting a LOT more National Title possibility talk. 9. Thank God for Goodman's career game, but where in the world was all of that talent over the last 4 years??? 10. Mike Patrick REALLY sucks... he must have been raised in a dysfunctional Gamecock family.
It also can't go without a VERY SPECIAL thanks for the VERY SPECIAL kind of stupid that is Les Miles and his HORRENDOUS play calling on their last drive, and to the pathetic pass on 2nd and 2 when they missed the wide open completion that likely would have sealed the game... WHEW, GEAUX STUPID! I always hear about SEC Speed, where's the consensus on SEC Stupid???
Clemson Ga prediction: We take the dogs to the doghouse, 38-17.

REVISED... replace Mike with Ed... he still has me so fired up that I totally typed in Mike's name (who was basically fair) where I meant to put Ed, who I obviously do not care for AT ALL!

Watch the game one more time.

1. Keep count of LSwho's rushing total during the fourth quarter. It totaled +1 yard. Everybody in the world including Clemson's coaching staff and me thought LSwho would run the ball. They fooled everybody except our defensive ends.
2. That pass play (last two calls by LSU's offense) had eaten the lunches of many fine football teams over the season including our's during that game. The timing was impeccable and the QB always rolled out and made a perfect throw. Note the DE's movement on the second pass of that series. If you've got it recorded you can freeze it as the ball is released and see that our Freshman DE is in the passing lane and watch him jump up as Mettenberger releases that ball. Our DE was in position to knock the pass down and their QB knew it. He altered the throw and the ball was uncatchable.
Son, that was a defense for that specific pass taught by our coach and executed by a young DE.
Goodman was a few steps closer to the QB on the last LSwho offensive play and the QB had to try and force the ball past him. It didn't work. That was a twice successfully executed defense against that pass.

+1 on that and I agree that both of the plays were perfectly defended, go back to my earlier comment on Coaching and BV having our guys in right place at right times doing the right things the right way! Still think stupid play calls for Les due solely to clock management... also on 3rd down there was a really good chance for Christian to go pick 6 had Goodman not batted the ball down... if that pass wasn't perfectly thrown 34 could have easily picked it in the flats and he was gone... go back and look.

Well the right side of LSU's line had something like 15 starts between them. They were both freshman though I think Turner was a redshirt. Their left tackle, Dworaczyk, was a 6th year Senior who had been a career left guard. He had to play left tackle due to an injury to Chris Faulk. The LSU offensive line was not what you would call a strength.
That doesn't take away from the fact that the Clemson D line physically whooped them.

but I can't STAND IT when he says, "The only thing, the only thing he did wrong was he didn't get his head around." The way he says it is just annoying, and he refuses to give Clemson any kind of credit. That was a spectacular play but he's too busy talking about what LSU DIDN'T do, instead of what Clemson DID do.

the worst is the pass interference call

He said no way was that pass interference. When the replay came on with LSU all over Hopkins back, he then won't admit by saying well that is in slow mo, in real time no way is that pass interference.

Yeah. And they called it. That line might work if it was something they DIDN'T call.

This is a paraphrase, but he said something like
"When Tajh Boyd is on, he's one of the best passers in the nation. But when he's off, oh boy is he really off."
He never just gives Clemson credit. Always a backhanded jab, or saying the other team messed up.

All play calls are stupid..if not executed

we had stopped the run all night( except 2 plays). the 2nd and 2 play call was a great call. It was wide open, QB just over threw the player.

Players, not plays

I agree with you, what if LSU had completed a 1st down with a pass? No one would be talking about the decision to pass instead of run, but our players stopped the pass anyways, even though they were probably expecting run, too.

I have to disagree that all calls are stupid if not executed... often see a perfect play called that just doesn't connect but that doesn't make it stupid. Their 2nd and 2 play was a GREAT call at any other point in the game to try and get a first down, but we needed the clock to stop running and they needed it to continue... the only thing that guarantees that is a run with the runner staying inbounds. A perfect play call would be any inside run, even a qb keeper... they had 2 chances to get 2 yards, or worst case cause us to burn 2 of our TO's, leaving us with a long field, very little time and only 1 TO... that's what made those calls stupid.

DUH, because it was a GREAT win for us and ESPN keeps reshowing it as one of the top games of the year! It was also our last game and we can learn a ton from it as we prepare for our next one!
