Remember Kelly was 14-14 to start the Miami game

Just for those who are doubting him. We all know Trevor has the ability to put touch on the ball. He's a gun slinger, but I do give credit where it's due. Bryant deserves our support. Plus think about this... We are in a great position with the luxury to have a senior QB to lead our young QBs along this year. I don't see our coaches risking TL to get hurt either. Expect different packages for each QB.

Here's the breakdown of the plays (just watched them)

Here are hist first 14 passes against Miami. Its obvious the gameplan was to use Miami's aggression against them and get off fast passes and get some players in space. I know you will want to discount this by pointing out they were short passes, but they were HIGHLY effective, and completing 14 passes (even short ones) and managing down/distance leading to TD's on every drive where we didn't fumble is a feather in his cap.
pass 1 1st and 10 screen to Renfrow, behind line of scrimmage, 4 YAC pass 2 3rd and 6 pass to Renfrow, caught 10 yards down field, 4 YAC pass 3 2nd and 9 pass to Cain, caught 7 yards down field, no YAC pass 4 1st and 10 pass to Renfrow, caught 23 yards down field, no YAC pass 5 1st and 10 pass to Etienne in the flat, 4 YAC pass 6 2nd and 6 pass to McCloud, caught 12 yards down field (in stride), 13 YAC pass 7 3rd and 3 pass to McCloud, caught 5 yards down field (past the sticks, in stride), 7 YAC pass 8 2nd and 6 pop pass to Rodgers, 5 YAC pass 9 1st and 10 pass to Overton, caught 18 yards down field, no YAC pass 10 1st and 10 screen to Renfrow, 1 YAC pass 11 2nd and 9 pass to Fuller in the flat, 4 YAC pass 12 3rd and 5 pass to McCloud past the sticks (5 yards down field) , 1 YAC pass 13 1st and 10 pass to McCloud in the flat, 3 YAC pass 14 2nd and 7 pass to Richard (safety valve, Bryant under pressure) in the flat, 7 YAC

Some are just gonna keep pretending that KB can only throw the ball 5 yards down the field or less. Let them doubt as he leads us to a natty.

He can throw it 10-20 well, to the right .. Past 20... You can keep pretending he can consistently do that... The stats show otherwise when he's no more than 25% any direction he throws it.

When did I ever say he had a consistant deep ball? He has proven he can make the throw but he does need work for sure. He also needs to be much better under pressure. He has to improve pocket awareness. This said TL threw 2 picks in the all-star game against good comp. Yes he did look good in the spring game when he couldn't be hit. I hope TL is as amazing as we all hope but I trust KB and TL showing out against Furman isn't going to change anything. Now if KB does bad the first 3 or 4 drives against A&M I will be hoping for a change. Most likely KB is our starter though and we need to support him. He has plenty to improve on but he also is very very good in some areas and he deserves credit for what he did last year. Yes his passing stats need to improve if we want to win it all.

Idk but his last high school game he was 15-28 142 yards and 1 TD. Now he has had plenty of amazing games as well. The all star game he had 2 picks and 2 fumbles. His team recovered both fumbles though.

0 completions for 0 yards. I guess he's overrated.
Oh, wait: 0 attempts!! I guess you coaches haven't given him a chance yet!
Boy, it sure is a good thing you weren't coaching against Miami in 2016. You know, when we put 56 on them, and Deshaun and Schuessler were both done by early 4th, and KB got the most

(Sorry. Phone froze.) extended playing time of his sophomore year. You know, when he established his pattern of dropping back to pass 12 times but only throwing it 5.
I guess it's good that DW4 and Schuessler were so good at running the offense that our 3rd stringer got work.
Do you coaches foresee that happening at all this year? Or would you rather go into 2019 with a totally unproven QB crew after having lost--yet again--in the CFP?

I don't know what that has to do with the fact that TL has zero experience vs power 5 teams, but don't understand how Watson and Shus do either.
Wait , are you saying Watson should give advice on what he learned from losing to Bama?

Seriously...what experience did Watson really have when we went in and layed a bomb pass for a TD vs UGA? Or when he outplayed Cole Stoudt 2 games later and lost in OT, but nearly could have beat FSU in Tallahassee. Experience doesn't mean you are the best necessarily. Yes KB has the experience edge, but then again, so did Zerrick Cooper last year. How'd that go between him and Johnson??

Before the UGA game. I didnt Google it to be sure, but I'm fairly confident in that answer.
Zerrick Cooper and hunter johnson were back up qbs to Kelly Bryant. The team won their division, the conference, Went 12-2 and like watson lost to Alabama in their last game of the season.
Also didn't Google, but I keep up with clemson football so trust me on this one.

And you guys can keep bringing up Miami all you want (since it's the only bigger game he actually passed good in)...but if you seriously think Miami's offense did anything to ever put KB under a pressure situation game to really see how he'd perform if he had to, I have some land I'll sell you for $1Mill. It's pretty easy when the other offense can't even score a single TD. We could have won that game without Bryant...with just 2 FG's..FYI.

"Dude, don't be satisfied with going 66 for 103 with 7 TDs and 1 pick vs two of the greatest defenses of this century. We scored 75 points against two teams that average giving up 21. Oh yeah, 825 yards passing. They're going to smash you in the mouth, target your receivers, clothesline you, maul your center on the snap, and dare you to earn their respect. The only way to do that is to complete passes. So throw the d*mn ball!
But if you really don't want to lose, make sure you tackle the Kick returner and cover the onside kick yourself."
So i guess your suggestion that KB did just as well vs Bama as Watson his first time is...not very accurate.
Funny that your skills at evaluating players are about as accurate as Kelly's passing skills: very good in a controlled environment vs inferior competition, grossly ineffective on the grand stage vs anybody good.

Umm, you do realize that was his worst game, right? Dude went 50-2 in his CHS career, and you want to padlock him to the bench so he gets no meaningful snaps until 2019.
In other words, you want us to go to CFP and lose under KB in 2017, go to CFP and lose under KB in 2018, and go to CFP and lose under TL in 2019, just so you can say TL was no better than KB. At what point do you develop your freaking successor, coach?
You assume we will be invited every year, and that we have lots of time for TL to get us there. You have either a) lost your hunger or b) forgotten how hard it is to get there, in which case, you're taking a page out of SouKarliner's fanbook by assuming you're entitled to way more than we have earned.

Because he was totally outmatched against that one defense. He was more thoroughly whipped than Jarred Stidham was vs the Power Rangers.
Why do you assume that a QB whose team beat 12 inferior opponents when he wasn't injured is actually going to have better skills and the ability to find the d*mn safetys next time he plays a team that isn't inferior?

Maybe because we beat Auburn with KB at qb. Maybe because Etienne will be healthy and have another year under his belt. Maybe because KB will have had another off-season and played 12 more games. You act like he didn't play against and beat other good Ds. He had one bad game where his line was crap and his RBs couldn't pick up a blitz. We will be better as a team and he will be better as a qb. Now TL may surpass him and be ready right now idk. If he is I will support his fully but KB can beat a team like Bama.

He didn't last year. As our RB couldn't make the blocks needed. Our OL couldn't make the blocks needed. Our WRs couldn't make the catches needed. So do we need to replace Etienne as well? I watched the game ofcourse. I watch us struggle and then gain momentum. KB got hit while throwing the ball and that changed everything. Yes it was his fault for not having the awareness but also our line and rbs for not picking up the blitz. Having played that D I believe he will learn how to attack it better now that he has the experience. If you do not believe that KB can lead us to the Natty idk how you call yourself a Tiger fan. He has proven he can win games and he has proven he can with our backs against the wall. If TL is truly better and beats him out great but that doenst mean KB can't win.

is simply incapable of making the kind of throws outside the pocket, when protections break down, that will beat a Saban/Sabanesque D...The D gave him the ball in the redzone and we lost 5 yards...The pick where he was hit is going to happen, especially if the RT doesn't lay a finger on the guy(it wasn't on Travis, watch the play again, Anchrum whiffs) but the pick 6 was ALL on KB...You don't throw a slant vs a guy with inside leverage...EVER...Certainly not at the 13...Being realistic about his limitations hardly makes me less of a Tiger, to even suggest so is exactly the kind of hot-take BS I have come to expect from you

You can be realistic about his limitations without saying he cannot lead us to a championship. He proved he was good enough to beat good teams. He had one bad game and you guys come on here saying there is no way he can win and that is total BS. You want to say I have hot take BS but look at what you are saying. I'm not saying he is a great QB nor an NFL talent but he is good enough to take this great team all the way. He was 12-1 last year when starting and finishing the game. How in the heck do any of you think because he lost one game to Bama that he can't beat any team that is good on D. We beat NC st, Auburn, and vT. All who's D's last year have plenty of guys that are not in the NFL. We beat those teams with plenty of help from KB as many would hate to admit. I understand your side of it but to say he cannot win is just f'd up. You could say TL gives us a better chance to win sure.

I mean I know what he's saying and truth be told he has a point. Most of the season we made short throws and ran more to compensate KB strengths. Kelly isn't a polished passer like TL. Then again TL is still learning which throws you make and don't attempt in college. There is a curve still. Deshaun Watson had that ability to zip throws into tight spaces while making it look easy. What we have all done is compare Kelly to Watson expecting the same results in the same offense a year later. That didn't happen, but we made the most of it with 12 wins. I'm very happy with what we had last year, but let's be honest we wernt destroying people alot last year. 24-14 gtech. BC was a nail biter until the 4th quarter bc neither team respected our pass game. Something tells me that our coaches are creating packages for each QB in case teams Wana go that route again. Ex: Alabama made us pass to win the ball game. They shut down the line of scrimmage and we were all looking for Kelly to win the game, but it just didn't happen. Sure add in the loss of Tee and Etienne, but we still had chances to win that game. We gave up 14 point from our own mistakes. Expect a higher scoring offense this year.

Trevor already knows the throws he can and can’t make, coach has publicly said that. TL has the arm talent to start day 1. The only thing holding him back is knowledge of playbook and leadership and that’s why KB will start week 1

KB had some beautiful touch passed in 2017, mainly to RRM. And the long passes in the season opener and Louisville were as good as possible. He has a really good high arch ball. Just needs someone who can catch it besides HR and RRM on the fly. KB’s passing will improve this year because of better recievers, a better blocking o-line including blocking tight end. Use running backs out of the backfield better as receivers. Better down field blocking by wide receivers for the underneath and bubble. Tempo, tempo, tempo, team.

So, "better receivers" will stop this from happening...like it did again throughout the entire spring game?? OK, gotcha...we must have some really expensive 007 shoes going on these guys this next year.

You do realize Tom Brady has made throws like that before as well right?

^ I guess it might help to give you context.... Both of those are in just one single drive of the VT game, the very first drive of the game for Clemson, in the game with one of his worse completion percentages of the season. Also has a decent pass in it, but it's a drive that stalled and ended with a FG. 2 that bad in one drive.... And that's obviously not on the receivers for fault.
How often does Brady overthrow his guys that bad twice in one drive?? I'll wait.
FYI, he did the same thing in the spring game as well.

Truth is we don’t know what TL can do but if we trust what the coaches and players are telling us is that it’s a close competition. That’s in itself is impressive but I wish people would quit saying he’s a gunslinger. I would say CB is more of that, hence 3rd spot.
With TL it’s not only that he can zip it downfield but he can make the correct reads from los. He also can get the ball to the perimeter much faster and can throw receivers open. Two of KB’s weaknesses.

Agree with you re. Chase; hence the 3 picks during the spring game.
I think some people are calling TL a gunslinger because his 50-yarder to Tee was actually covered well by the DB, but Tee went and got it. Similar situation later but different personalities, and Chase's ball gets picked.
That's one of the aspects of TL's game (I've read) that many people don't get: TL doesn't just read a defense, he also reads players. He has a good idea the way a corner is going to cover based on how he sets his feet and shades the WR, so that a QB and WR working together create angles that guarantee either a completion or a DPI.
You can show KB all the same stuff, but it's wasted, because he doesn't have the tools to take advantage of those openings. The delivery is too slow, the ball comes out loopy, the pass is so inaccurate that it might be on the wrong side of the DB. And Kelly never knows where the safetys are, so he's going to hold onto the ball anyway until he knows for sure.
I hope that isn't true this year, but some of that's difficult to change.

KB is great at what he does and was/is a great leader of this team. He can make most of the throws most of the time and is a great athlete with the ball in his hands.
That said, just watc the spring game and you know Trevor has it. Yes, his deep ball to tee was great but his checkdown to what either looked like his third or fourth read to Cannon Smith tells you all you need to know about his playbook knowledge. The kid has it and you better take advantage of it.

I think the doubts come in when it appears that our OC's choose not to go deep very often, and when they do, KB is inconsistent on those pass attempts. IMO it cost Cain in the draft due to not having enough catches, and a lot of that was attributed to KB missing Cain in stride.
I love KB and totally appreciate what he has done, and honestly, we can win the ACC with TL never playing a down. The problem will be winning the NC, as the best teams we will face will have the necessary D to shut KB down and force him to make those throws. The Bama game provides teams with the game plan needed to beat us, if they have the talent.
That being said - our DEFENSE might dominate teams so much that we won't need to make many long passes, so KB might be perfect for us this year. Bama will NOT be able to stop us this year after losing so much talent.

LOL.
South Carolina has ZERO hope of beating us, no matter who plays QB.
Zero.

So you bring up Miami, a team you'd only face if we make it to the ACC game....a team he as a run strength QB had uh oh...7 yards against.
So, how didhe do in passing vs his 3-6 division rival... The team that could stop him from ever playing in the ACC-CG? 151 yards...0 passing TD's? That team makes a come back, I'd worry less about making it to play the team that's only scores 3 points in the last 2 meetings.
