what happened

Jan 24, 2020, 6:27 PM

after analysis is what we saw on 1/13:

CU hid coverages well early, Joe couldn't see it and was pinned back by great punting. CU dominated. Then Joe found that dbl cover was there for short but CU was depending on single coverage, w/ rush, on Chase. The DB simply had no chance to single cover him and Joe found him for 200+. When CU paid him more attention the middle opened for Jefferson who got his 100+, and others short.

Etienne and LSU's Queen were hs opponents and friends, stayed in contact. Queen was higher rated, good RB and turned into an excellent LB, w/ RB speed, at LSU.

ETN ate LSU up early. LSU as usual started out in base D, then turned to Plan B, have Queen shadow his old friend; Q got Def MVP. Meanwhile Stingley is the nation's best cover corner not playing on Sundays, shut down whoever he was on no matter how big or fast. Even then CU didn't test him often. This freed up Safeties to come in for heat on Lawrence and to help elsewhere.

LSU line was able to stop CU from putting on too much heat. Know last year's CU line woudda presented much more challenge.

Burrow is a real man, played 2nd half with rib cartilage damage. Will rehab for weeks now, no play in Sr Bowl or any throwing.

They don’t get to play meaningful games often, and they won’t for years to come. Just let him have his time, it won’t last long.

What happened was all of your talented players and most of your coaches hit it and quit it this past season. Heck of a run by an extremely talented team, enjoy because they were a special bunch and fun to watch (mostly).

What really happened: Lawrence was not up to par.
The secondary did not play well later in the game.
The DL was not able to get through the holds.
the other tigers played a good game.

As with all commentary of a game, it is just an opinion.

My takeaway is just like Clemson beatdown of Bama in 2018-19 championship, LSU was far and away the better team. Kudos to LSU on a great season! Burrow, Aranda and Brady will be hard to replace.

Who do you see winning SEC next year?

winner of UGA v UF will play winner of LSU v bama in SEC CG. Ranking them: bama, UGA, UF, LSU.

LSU had several guys stay back instead of going NFL last year, thus now loses ~17 starters.
Got extrememly talented guys with potential coming on but potential means THEY AIN'T DONE IT YET.

OL and LB will be problem areas, will cost some games. QB will be good but nothing approaching Jeaux.

Scheduled includes road vs UF, AU and Tamu, w/ visits from bama and UTx.

For The Playoffs pencil in Clem, tOSU, OU/UTx and the SEC Survivor.

Very good assessment LSU.
I think your SUC rankings are on the money. Good luck next year. Rebuilding is tough. Clemson had to go through it this year.

What happened is LSU won and was the better team that night. Tiger fans on this site have duly recognized that fact.

What continues to happen entails you and a sprinkling of deranged LSU and Coot junkies trolling the runner up in spite of our graciousness.

Whether you’re a true LSU fan or not, you’re embarrassing yourself and the LSU fan base. I can state as though it’s already happened, that your success will be short lived. LSU was built for a moment and rented a terrific QB. We’ve seen it come and go over the course of our five consecutive playoff appearances, four championship games, and two Natty wins under our belt in the last 4-yrs. I’m sure we’ll see it again. The coots are our instate rival after all.

The only thing worse than a sore loser is you; a fan incapable of enjoying your victory amongst your swamp kin, rather applying your energy in attempt to get a rise out of the second best team in the country this year.

Perhaps you’ll have opportunity to internalize this next season as we make our annual run to the playoff and you take your rightful place as the second or third best team in the SEC west, but then again if reflection and internalization were your strong suit you wouldn’t be here.

We’re excited because we KNOW the best is yet to come. We’ve already shaken it off and look forward to next year.

You should be excited too, for sadly that win will likely be the pinnacle moment of your pathetic crawdad life.

Nice try at being a honest broker. Maybe LightBulbBill and Finebaum will give you a thumbs up.

I have seen LSU win more Nsttys than Clem has ever won.

LSU will compete in the future but doesn't get a 12 game BYE thru the acc into the Playoffs. At least Clem plays one team with a chance next season. The nation will be ND fans that day.

In the laat 12 games vs Top Ten teams LSU is 11-1, over 2 years. It might take Clem 4 years to get that many attempts and then only with Playoffs.

I visit other teams' boards and return, win or lose. Gracious? Not hardly. Some here are very gracious but many aren't.

Dunno if you realize it but many across the nation hate Clem because they play nobody, and Dabo's whinning about respect makes it worse.

Re: what happened

Jan 25, 2020, 1:36 PM [ in reply to Re: what happened ]

There will generally be regional jealousy against all conference winners -- it's good business for sports media top stir the pot. It appears you and other SEC fans bemoan the fact you play a tough SEC regular season schedule. Last year Bama beat LSU 28-0 in LSU in Burrow's 4th year of college (without Brady). Then Clemson in Lawrence's true freshman year slaughtered the SEC's best Bama. Suck it up and win.

For many years I was a big college hoops fan before one and done ruined the sport. There were always articles complimenting Kentucky hoops - fans nationwide expected them to be there. They didn't cry that Kentucky played in the crappy SEC. Now Clemson plays in the weak but now improving ACC, and fans nationwide expect Clemson to be there no matter how much eSECpn stirs it up. Get used to Clemson continuing to receive national coverage. And LSU will take a step back in 2020. Is it possible LSU could lose some games big next year? I agree with your assessment on Florida stepping up. I also expect AU to defeat LSU next year.

If you're an LSU man and a betting man, enjoy LSU's big win to the max, then start consideration of how Clemson will match up vs. Ohio St, Bama, AU or UF in next year's playoffs. Clemson will be at the Rose or back in New Orleans at the Sugar Bowl. The FBS TV Ratings Selection Committee will set the matchups to favor Clemson vs. Ohio St in the Final if they can pull it off. And again, congrats on a phenomenal year with Brady, Burrow and Aranda leading the charge! No doubt a great team.

Not a bad analysis

Jan 25, 2020, 9:47 AM

a little TOO exuberant, but that is to be expected.

I would disagree with one thing. I think we were getting plenty of heat (cartilage damage) until Skalski went out. Venebles just isn't as good at finding the blitz opening and then we started sending Simmons more which helped open up the middle. If Skalski stays in perhaps it is a different story. No complaints though - it was clearly targeting.

If Clem played LSU's schedule they wouldn't have a 12 game BYE into The Playoffs every year.

for 2020 LSU plays 5 of the Top Sixteen teams (3 at their house), Clem only 1. And if LSU gets thru that, another Top Ten team in the SEC CG.

So Yes, LSU may not get to the Playoffs next year, but if LSU does it will be earned and not given as the only big fish in a weak pond.

HAHA - enjoy this, you will be irrelevant soon enough.***
