I am pretty sure he is referring to the political backlash that would occur. and For Justice Roberts to follow the right wing's deliberate misinterpretation of what Sen. Schumer said, while remaining silent when President Trump attacked Justices Sotomayor and Ginsburg last week, shows Justice Roberts is a partisan hypocrite and not qualified to sit on the bench.

Trump was trying to influence getting her out from her position because she was acting as an obstacle to what he wanted the Ukraine to do. The fact you acknowledge she was removed speaks to the reality that Trump was "influencing" to remove her. Don't you see that?

Schumer directed his comments to the Justices, and Trump directed his comments to Schumer.
No difference (other than the subject(s) the comments are directed to which I assume that's not the distinction you're trying to make because that would be incredibly ridiculous.)
I actually think Trump's tweet is purposefully using Schumer's language to make a point the same way Schumer used Kavanaugh's "whirlwind" language at Kavanugh's confirmation to make his point. I don't think any of them actually are threatening anyone else with violence.
But, if we think like you are, then Trump is just as guilty as Schumer in threatening by "paying a price." He uses the exact same wording. That's just the reality and it's bizarre that you are arguing against it.

This is the context of Schumer's speech:

I can see how both sides can see what they want in what he said. However, if you see "pay a price" as a violent threat and not a political threat, then why not also think "you're gone in November" as a threat? What's the difference?
This also informs your examples which, as you point out, context matters when addressing whether "pay the price" should be taken as a violent threat or a political one.

His words were very poor, but it's just nonsense to say he was really threatening anybody. Senator Schumer was way out of line, however, and he should apologize.
I listened to his comments this morning, and what struck me, more than the words themselves, was the rage and passion with which he was speaking. And in defense of killing children. It broke my heart.

That's a little over the top. Schumer was out of line with his comments, but i don't think he meant physical consequences - he meant political ones. So i think jail is a bit over the top. I also recognize that the words that i just wrote have been written by Trump defenders.
The bottom line is that ALL of our leaders should be better than this. It is one thing for some citizens to get out of hand and run off their mouths in harmful ways, but anyone who wants to claim a leadership role on either side of the aisle should be better than this. Of course, in a democracy, WE get the kind of leadership that WE deserve and until WE demand better, We probably won't get it.
