This time of year, the only thing that separates Columbia from hell is a torn up screen door.

In all seriousness, it has a confluence of rivers, providing plenty of humidity, it is far enough from the ocean it gets no seabreeze, and it is a bunch of concrete on sand so it reflects back heat as well as absorbing it.
