I really like CTB, but some of his comments just rub me wrong. Like "they're second for a reason."

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

What's wrong with that?

All he is saying is that the guy is second team for a reason...the reason being, the first team player was performing better.

Coaches make comments like this all the time. Downplaying your team is aimed at making the opponent over confident. It also makes your team feel like their backs are against the wall, so they have to come out fighting. Its just a motivational tactic, not a big deal

just kinda seemed trite***

strategic move we are going to make. I hope it is just a delusive tactic to throw off the opponent, but i don't know. Maybe among coaching professionals the information isn't telling them anything they don't already know.

Very, Very Excited. Very, Very Proud.

Delusive....I don't know if it's a word, but I like it.

delusive:

inappropriate to reality or facts; "delusive faith in a wonder drug"; "delusive expectations"; "false hopes"
