Can we agree that the handling of the "injury" is unusual?

Aug 20, 2014, 9:38 AM

Usually the coaching staff comes right out and says, "X player tweaked his knee, or rolled up his ankle (etc.) and we're getting medical scans for further diagnosis."

I don't recall an injury being handled like this. Strange.

Maybe it's a minor injury to a major contributor.***

with the way its being handled, it does sound unsual

and possibly somewhat serious as in season or career ending. I hope im wrong, but as you mentioned none of the other injuries at camp thus far have been handled like this. Especially the mention of having to consult the parents.

Re: with the way its being handled, it does sound unsual

Aug 20, 2014, 9:46 AM

I don't think there's anything wrong with how they are handling it, but it's definitely unusual. I'm sure the parents have known for close to 12 hours by now

I think that Dabo should go ahead and send the Bulldogs our complete game plan so they can be prepared for us.
They really need to know about all our injuries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

however I agree with the above post that we shouldnt

true Dabo only said the player had an MRI

Aug 20, 2014, 9:52 AM

basically he said it could be serious, minor or nothing at all

Re: it could be a player that hasn't granted release of his

They sign a blanket release when they enroll. The school can't release sensitive personal information. But it's not like players have to give them permission to disclose each and every injury.

they can not be required to sign the medical info release waiver

Re: Can we agree that the handling of the "injury" is unusual?

Aug 20, 2014, 10:15 AM

Technically, I don't think HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) allows them to comment at all.

That could be all this is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Stalwart universities—Harvard, Princeton, Yale—most certainly offer status. The Citadel offers character. "

Re: Can we agree that the handling of the "injury" is unusual?

Aug 20, 2014, 10:36 AM

I don't think college football players are covered under Hipa laws. Could be wrong but there are plenty of non healthcare workers involved in the injury.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Can we agree that the handling of the "injury" is unusual?

Aug 20, 2014, 10:44 AM

Looks like most trainers would fall under Hipaa but not anyone else out on the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson would be considered a covered entity

Aug 20, 2014, 12:07 PM

they likely pay for the players medical treatment and they certainly get the results. They may even have an employment contract or some other arrangement with a medical staff. Thus they would be covered.

However, they could say "so and so has a knee injury and won't play" and be completely safe in that statement. There is a difference between medical information and information around playing status.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's also consideration for the parents knowing first.***

condition. But then again, if it was that serious you would think we'd already know what happened since bad news travels fast.

Very interesting.

Or not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

More likely what we can expect as the University controls

Aug 20, 2014, 11:37 AM

more and more of what is disclosed by the limiting of traditional media. We're just following the trend in college athletics. Doesn't mean the injury isn't a big deal, but we've seen over the last year CU moving toward more strict control of information released

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
