How do two 8-4 unranked teams

Dec 30, 2017, 10:54 PM

get into a New Years Day Bowl? Outback Bowl reps have to be pissed about that matchup. I wont watch it, unless Michigan gets a 30 pt lead or more.

If the Outhouse Bowl mattered,

Dec 30, 2017, 11:00 PM

it'd be part of the Playoff rotation.Otherwise,it's just a Bowl trying to pimp itself up by scheduling itself when the games that matter are played.

Better question, why is the outback bowl a new year's day bowl?***

No, it use to be the Hall of Fame Bowl at one point and turn into the Outback Bowl.

I think that's the Champs or Camping World bowl now.***

The Citrus Bowl turned into the Champs Bowl, then became Camping World Bowl, which Oklahoma State and VT just played in.

I liked the format from my youth. Basically, all the lesser bowls one per night, starting around December 18th, then things heated up on NYE day with 3 or 4 bowls, followed by 9 or more games on 3 networks all day on January 1st.

Yep, the bowl parades would start early on New Year's Day in the morning before the games came on at noon.

I loved it! I recall my excitement as a kid knowing college

Dec 31, 2017, 9:56 AM

Football was going to be on all day and late into the night (Orange Bowl) now that is every Saturday except they aren't all bowl games.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed!

Dec 31, 2017, 12:05 AM [ in reply to Re: i lost track when the cotton bowl showed up on dec 29th*** ]

Orange Bowl has always been at night. Wonder if they need to rethink that in years when other bowls feature the playoffs.

Re: Agreed!

That way the Orange could take the place of the Outback on New Years.

NYE falls on a Sunday which is reserved for NFL so those bowl games got moved to NYD instead of NYE which they would’ve normally been played on

ESECPN controls most of the bowl game scheduling...

Dec 30, 2017, 11:45 PM

So they think putting bowls that have SEC teams in them on New Year’s Day will help get the SEC back to their glory days. Ain’t gonna work, because most of the quality match ups have happened before New Year’s Day.
