Tidefans.com article

Interesting article from Bama perspective.

Gives advantage to:
Bama for QB
Clemson for RBs
Bama for WRs
Clemson for OL

I'd say Clemson has the advantage at QB. Clemson has the best overall RB but I think Bamas group of 3 is better than Clemson's as a whole. Clemson at WR and Bama at OL. I basically disagree with this all around.

No way is TL better than Tua right now

Jan 7, 2019, 9:06 AM

Tua has the adv over TL in being pressured Imo. Pressure TL and hes just not as good

Re: No way is TL better than Tua right now

Jan 7, 2019, 9:12 AM

Have you watched Tua at all? Every time he's played a good defense he hasn't played well. All he does it throw up prayers and has all year. Soon as he plays a defense that forces tight throws he's struggles. He isn't as near as accurate as Tlaw and doesn't read defenses or make decisions as well either.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tua is rated the #1 qb under pressure(qbr rating)

Jan 7, 2019, 9:14 AM

TL might be better in the long term, but right now Tua has the slight advantage imo.

put throws on a dime all year long.
Great thing about it, we'll find out in 8 yr hrs. :)

The only thing i hope, is we dont lose b/c of turning ball over.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:26 AM [ in reply to hey, I'm hoping, but all i see is him ]

I've rarely seen him put anything on a dime. I see a guy who throws the ball as far as he can and sees his WR run under it past the crappy secondaries they've played.

Tua is the first QB Bama has EVER had that plays like this. Bama has never had a QB like Tua in their history. They dont know what a dual threat QB is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's pretty funny.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:27 AM [ in reply to Re: Tua is rated the #1 qb under pressure(qbr rating) ]

It's total defense numbers so I'm not going to bother replying other than to say he wasn't "bad" against MSU and he was injured against UGA so... what are you really going to learn from that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: That's pretty funny.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:28 AM

It isn't just total defense numbers.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:32 AM [ in reply to That's pretty funny. ]

He has been injured, seriously, twice this season. Both injuries were almost career ending had it not been for an experimental surgery. He will have to play carefully, because all it will take is Christian Wilkins landing on him one time...

Lawrence has been great, but Tua has been much better

Jan 7, 2019, 9:10 AM [ in reply to Re: Tidefans.com article ]

Outside of the Georgia game where he was injured, he probably had the greatest QB season in the history of CFB. In terms of efficiency he was #1 by a mile. He might not have the counting stats like total passing yards in a season, but he's averaged 11.4 yards per attempt with 41 TDs and just 4 INTs.

Trevor is at 8.0 YPA with 27 TDs and 4 INTs which is fantastic for a true FR QB, but it's not Tua.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Lawrence has been great, but Tua has been much better

Jan 7, 2019, 9:12 AM

Bama has played an average 80 something defense. I bet he did have a great year. He was terrible when he played any defense with a pulse.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:22 AM

We haven't played great defenses either but I believe it's 50 something average.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Total defense is a complete garbage stat

Jan 7, 2019, 9:30 AM

You shouldn't even look at these days.

Army finished 8th in total defense this year. Army's defense was sh*t. Total defense makes Army's defense look good because Army led the country in time of possession (38 min per game) and their defense didn't have to defend many snaps.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Total defense is a complete garbage stat

Jan 7, 2019, 9:36 AM

It isn't just total defense. We're talking PASS DEFENSE

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't disagree with a word of that but

Jan 7, 2019, 9:13 AM [ in reply to Lawrence has been great, but Tua has been much better ]

I'm hoping for this one game that Trevor is head and shoulders above Tua.

See what I did there?

Re: Wow! If our OL is truly better, I fear for Tua's

Jan 7, 2019, 9:18 AM

LOL, I think it’s impossible to find a fan base that thinks their own OL is very good. That’s the one position group that everyone thinks is terrible if they give up 1 sack or their RB doesn’t gain 20 yards on every carry!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lol, i was thinking the same thing.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:21 AM [ in reply to Wow! If our OL is truly better, I fear for Tua's ]

as a side note, how many false starts by Anchrum today ;) He's been jumpy lately

above-average pass rusher. He's a real concern against a 3-4 front. They'll bring pressure from disguised looks and delayed blitzes. If he gets burned a time or two, he'll get jumpy.

He's my one concern on offense. Hope he plays over his head.

Jan 7, 2019, 9:36 AM [ in reply to Wow, I was thinking more ]

QB - Bama. We have a very good one, they have a great one
WR - Bama. They have the best WR corp in the country, ours is #2.
RB - Clemson. But they are loaded too.
OL - ???. Based on history i would hesitate to say ours is better. Theirs seems to hold up better against great defenses than ours does.

DL - Clemson. They have the single most dominant DL in CFB this year though in Q. Williams.
LB - Bama
DBs - Bama. Their big edge is at safety. I think we are every bit as good at CB.

Punting - Both are actually terrible
FG kicking - I think both are pretty bad

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You know it doesn't make any sense to me to compare

Jan 7, 2019, 9:41 AM

QBs with QBs RBs with RBs etc because when their QB is on the field, ours isn't. It's all about match-ups and both teams match up well. They are both good everywhere. Saban is the best gameday coach which gives them a lead. It will all come down to about 10 plays or so. A couple of turnovers either way or some somewhat lucky big plays is all it takes.
