Best/cheapest/most cost effective way to watch tv

Aug 5, 2019, 6:22 PM

While tailgating? I'm on the fence on buying a dish tailgater equipment package and wanted to know how much I'll be spending after having the equipment

Tablet, with a iPhone or iPad you just need a lightning to HMI cable to hook to your TV.

Streaming seems like it would be terrible on a game day wouldn't it? Sometimes I can hardly text around the stadium.

Clemson just invested a ton of money to fix that problem from what I’ve read. Drad says everyone will have no problem using their phone.

Not to mention you would have to have a big data plan as 1 hour of hd 720p is almost 1GB of data. And as you mentioned, i definately wouldn't rely on streaming speeds around the stadium. Not for Verizon anyway. Just local stations with tv antenna is my only advice.

I thought I read Clemson invested in a 500,000 user free WiFi network at Death Valley, ensuring everyone will be able to use their phone on game day.

Tailgater is not the best satellite. Dish Network is great but the Tailgater Dish is crap, only works on Western Horizon. Some days in Clemson (cloudy, stormy) you just can’t get a good signal. I had a Tailgater for 5 years and had constant problems. Someone told me to switch to a Winegard satellite and my problems would be solved. They were right. The Winegard picks up Eastern and Western Satellites, a total of about six satellites are available. The Winegard switches seamlessly from satellite to satellite. Spend a little extra and get the Winegard. I don’t get anxiety about satellite reception two days before a game anymore.

direct tv and a marine deep cycle battery, you cant stream

Aug 5, 2019, 7:55 PM

if have home account add receiver for 9 or 10 dollars a month. i been doing this for years.
i also use a $100 trolling motor deep cycle marine battery that last 8 hours or more. i bring 2. cheaper than generator and no messy gas. remember not to put battery on the ground or it will discharge.
if you think you can stream you are dreaming no matter what the upgrades

Good suggestion. I use 3 car batteries and a power converter. Power lasts all day from 10 am -10 pm.

I have a Dish Tailgater and I hate it.

The western satellites sit low on the horizon, so if there are any buildings are trees to the west you are screwed.

I bought mine from Southeastern Satellite in Lexington. Once you activate it you cannot return it, but you don't know if it works unless you activate it. They don't tell you that before you buy.

What television provider do you use?

Aug 6, 2019, 11:26 AM

If you can get away with your cellular service, the cheapest thing is to set up a hot spot and use your smart tv.

No matter how toy do it, the power source will likely be your largest investment.

Do you have any power sources at home already?

Ive seen people running their TVs off solar panels...DC batteries, generators, battery jump starters, pole hacking... socket snatching
