Jimbo left a mess, he recruited those clowns and he couldn't even win with them. I think Taggart will clean house and get rid of the bad apples but the coach afther him will get them back to top 10 status.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First year woes.

Oct 28, 2018, 9:17 PM

We know how bad the inmates were running FSU before Jimbo left. Taggert needs to go the Charlie Strong route and start kicking the "uncoachables" off the team and out the door.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think so....

Oct 28, 2018, 9:28 PM

He has enough to do better than this. They don't just look undisciplined. They look poorly Coached. They don't look like they know what they should be doing sometimes.

He's got one more season if that long.***

They've had no oline since Jameis was there. It's been a problem for a couple years.

The issues at FSU go well beyond a bad offensive line***

Oct 28, 2018, 10:26 PM

We all had more rushing yards than FSU did yesterday. That OL was bad last year and they were still an effective running team. Patrick, Akers, and Laborn (I think he's hurt) were all 5 star backs. There's been regression on that team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wilkins had more rushing yards than the entire FSU team

Oct 28, 2018, 10:28 PM

On one carry !!!!

I mean Kent St. who threw in the towel from the opening kick last season had positive rush yards.

His overall record does not reflect that he is a "good coach".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What exactly can you point to to say he’s a good coach?

Oct 29, 2018, 7:34 AM [ in reply to Re: anyone think Taggart might be in ]

Career losing record, constantly jumps from job to job, Oregon not really missing a beat without him.

He’s shown he’s a good recruiter at getting a bunch of 4 stars, but hasn’t consistently brought in 5 star difference makers.

Has shown zero evidence he’s able to sustain a program and has no experience doing so. He left USF better than he found it, sure, but they weren’t but a couple years removed from competing for CUSA championships.

Oct 28, 2018, 11:33 PM [ in reply to Re: anyone think Taggart might be in ]

I disagree.

Dabo took a good foundation and built a masterpiece upon it.

Dabo inherited 1) a solid and committed coaching staff; 2) numerous high character and somewhat skilled players; 3) a university with good academics and only a small history of athletic entitlement; and 4) a boss and boosters with high expectations but the willingness to be patient so long as the trend was upwards.

I know none of these 4 factors are absolutely accurate--for instance, Dabo's staff faced numerous changes before he was pleased with player performance--but they are all far better IMO than the conditions Taggart is dealing with.

Re: anyone think Taggart might be in

I THINK FSU will find themselves buried in the rubble of a history they can't revive, and find themselves leveled out with (the upper echelon of) the ACC. Not a top dog. A fan base with unmet expectations will not regain the enthusiasm they thrived on. Florida, Miami, Georgia, us and everybody else is going to get most of the cream of their would be recruits.
The ACC needs FSU to be great, and we can compete with them if they are but I don't see it happening for a long while. Hope I'm dead wrong.

The spotlight's not too bright, but it exposes much...

Oct 28, 2018, 10:40 PM

...and Taggert will need to make some major changes beyond making players tote a Dora The Explorer backpack.

There's more than enough talent for decent success immediately, but it's going to run out quickly if he doesn't replace the current talent. Fair or not, there's a sense of entitlement among the top players and when Taggart smacks that down, there will be trouble. How (or if) he is able to weather that will determine his fate.

He talks the talk, but having starters give up when the going gets rough is not a good sign. There will be plenty of rough-going in the next month for FSU, and he's going to have to walk the walk.

Re: The spotlight's not too bright, but it exposes much...

Oct 28, 2018, 11:19 PM

Right, but if he is going to replace the uncoachables, he needs his freshmen, "his recruits", to be more coachable than the guys they replace.

On Saturday, his freshmen were half the problem.

Re: anyone think Taggart might be in

Oct 29, 2018, 8:03 AM

I don't think so. He has to get his system set up. He also has to get the players that Jimbo rotted to the core out of there. Francois is tough but he is not a leader. Willie said you can't recruit off the internet on Saturday and I think that was a clear shot at Jimbo. I think FSU has just been going after star ratings and it's starting to show by development. Nobody knew what was going to happen when Dabo was hired so I will hold judgement and just watch and see. I hope he succeeds because he seems like a players coach and not a scumbag like JF.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Recruiting stars seem to work for Bama

Oct 29, 2018, 8:12 AM

And you don’t get to call your system “Lethal Simplicity” and then get to use the excuse that it’s taking a while for the players to learn it. Even when they were “rotten to the core”, FSU was at least competitive last year after the whole coaching staff was disinterested. So what’s the excuse for this coaching staff performing worse trying their hardest than the staff last year who wasn’t trying?
