Yet another de-commit

May 19, 2015, 8:38 AM

I've always believed you "get more flys with honey than vinegar" and we are seeing that come to life at USCjr. Since being hired as our Head Coach, Dabo has been called many things by the coots, all negative. Their "Hall Of Fame" coach was going to lead them to greatness and championships and as we all know, that hasn't happened. Honestly, Dabo has gone about the business of creating a "family" atmosphere here at Clemson that places an emphasis on being a good man first and a good athlete second and parents and coaches of these young prospects get that loud and clear. Another young man, Kyle Davis, has decided he wants to look elsewhere for his college years. This is more than a fluke, it's a pattern. All of the coots can rationalize and dismiss this obvious trend but it's got to be alarming. At the core of recruiting is an athlete commits to a school first and a coach second. The coots have had it all wrong for a while, since Holtz and now with OBS, they have tried to sell superior coaching first and their university second. Maybe since their university is such a tough sell, selling your prospective recruits on coaches "past their prime" is all they have? My question to them is how does our head "cheerleader" look to you now?

Re: Tweet That !!***

May 19, 2015, 8:55 AM

I wonder if they understand that it may just be in their best interests to start the coaching search anew. Not because the current JC has plainly stated his disinterest in staying beyond 2 to 3 years (his own claim) , but simply because the trend that their football program is on now is downward. Wins down and losses up in 2014 , defensive performance way down and with tje recruits deciding to look elsewhere (or worse ) one would have to be a sincere fool to poke the head into the sand hills and say that everything were going to be alright .
Dabo had a plan and even when he was losing to Spurrier his order and tenacity kept him winning and kept this vision on track. Clemson is in a much , much better place under Swinney than the Coots are under Spurlid , and it really seems to be a widening gap.
If they don't do something drastic soon , might end up (aghast !) returning to the cellar with the likes of Memphis and UTEP to keep them company in their CFB purgatory.

The facts are, Dabo is 1-5 since he was named Head Coach. Over the last 5 years, depending on what site you follow, Carolina's avg recruiting class ranking is between 16-18. Clemson's is 13-15. Who knows who will turn into great players. Who would have thought the great Boyd/Watkins duo would get crushed everytime they played Carolina? We'll see...as for know, Dabo is still 1-5. Now get back on the tugboat.

Glad you're ignorant enough to post that as I've been telling very single Coot I know that after 100 plus years it's all you have and that Slurrier knows the IQ of his fanbase, which is why he continues to bring it up. After all, at 1-21, Lou convinced the ignorant lot that you're part of that they'd win any other conference. In spite of a 100 year of history that proves different . Keep it up, your grandchildren will be telling their grandchildren about the Streak and the Glory Years of when the Coots beat the only BCS team ever from the State of SC.

May 19, 2015, 9:55 AM [ in reply to Re: Tweet That !!*** ]

First, Dabo is 2-5 against the dirt peckers. Second, our average rank in recruiting is 11, and we have either moved up or stayed the same every year. This last year we were 9 places better than we were in 14 (13th to 4th). You have an average rank of 17.5 over the last four years and those classes have been 19, 16, 16, and 19. You have now started the trend downward. This year, even though we have just started recruiting, we are ranked in the top 10 and the chickens are sandwiched between Western Michigan and Louisiana Tech at 39.

I will not even get in to the story about how many folks are jumping ship over there, and just the negative feel about football in general in cootlumbia.

Right now, you are in denial. Good news is, you may go .500 this year, which is better than what you have historically been.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't forget, those recruiting class rankings

May 19, 2015, 10:06 AM

are based on those that sign a LOI in Feb, not on the 5-10 that don't qualify for them each year in August. Just on that fact alone, we've OUTCLASSED them the last 3 years.

Their recruiting is far worse than it looks on paper.

What they are doing is exactly what they were accusing us of doing when they declared history was history and it belonged in the past. What was happening now that counts above all else they were saying, and listen to what they are using now. We are 5-1 over you, get the FK real coots. The score is 1-0 right now. If you want to count the past, it's 66 Clemson and 42 coots, and that is the true story. We will hit 70 before coots get to 43, end of story!!!

Dabo has two wins and you know it. You don't count it because he was "Interim" head coach. Dabo lead the team that whipped those coots and that is a further embarrassment for you and your school. An interim head coach that was a wide receivers coach beat your hero in his first try. In three more years it will be 5 - 5 and your coach will be retired playing golf in Augusta. Your program will be back to the dump it has been throughout it's history. And there will be no sign of Blue.

Re: Tweet That !!***

May 19, 2015, 12:34 PM [ in reply to Re: Tweet That !!*** ]

Do you know why that truly is? It is actually much tougher to get into an ACC school than an SEC school. So what Clemson has to do is recruit student first, athlete second. Which what makes this rivalry record so interesting. Knowing that you could recruit any caliber player without having to sacrifice the 'student' portion of the equation, Clemson still owns the rivalry series. And in your world where the last six years, South Carolina reign 'supreme,' the next six will be what South Carolina fans are use to seeing. Packing Williams-Brice to watch the mediocre Gamecocks football team, which means loses to Georgia, Clemson, LSU, MIZZOU, Tennessee, lose close to the real Carolina, narrowly escape a Kentucky or Vandy (you won't win both), and making the Citadel and Furman look good for three quarters. All the while, the 'Cheerleader' will be working on more championships. It takes examining history to understand history.....and all you and your faithful have is something I call tunnel vision. You can only see the five year streak where we at Clemson actually see the bigger picture. 35-17 was just a small sample taste of what South Carolina will experience the next three years. Get ready for the Orange Crush!!!

And that with Dabo as HC, Clemson would never win another game against Slurrier. Coot nation loved the HC hire of Dabo and hoped that Clemson would keep Dabo forever. Now coots are saying that Dabo and the staff he put together as Clemson's HC are some of the best recruiters in the nation. Y'all can't seem to get it right when it comes to Dabo and his staff I guess. Maybe what y'all were saying about Dabo, is what the HC for the gamecocks actually turned out being, a Joke and an embarrassment to coot nation and usuc. If you were to ask Clemson nation what they feel about the Clemson HC hire and the usuc HC hire. Most would say that Dabo turned out to be a gold mine, and the coot HC hire turned out to be a 100 proof pile of dung!!!

May 20, 2015, 3:41 PM [ in reply to Re: Yet another de-commit ]

Here is the irony in your statement:

The same guy that is the coach of South Carolina was actually the head coach at a true higher education school called...Duke. You know, that very dominant basketball school in the basketball conference? In 1989, that same coach won a conference championship at Duke. DUKE!!!

So to say Dabo could recruit that way at NC State? Possibly. But he's at Clemson. Also, he isn't doing it alone. His staff (mostly Clemson alums, two played WR the year of the epic "Touchdown Clemson" 2003 beatdown of South Carolina in Williams-Brice) are outstanding recruiters. So how come Spurrier couldn't deliver the same results at South Carolina that he did at DUKE, aka "the Basketball school?"

I think the world of Dabo. But I would say Clemson created a high reputation for football long before Dabo stepped foot on campus. Clemson is charged with a high level of education on a campus with a beautiful backdrop for students to call home for four to five years. Atmosphere plays a big role in a student's decision to attend a school and it should. Not just the name of a coach.....

Duke has the luxury of being in the ACC. It was an even easier ACC in the 80s before FSU joined.

Hard to argue we wouldn't have won the ACC in 2011 if we were in the ACC.

Re: Yet another de-commit

May 20, 2015, 4:46 PM [ in reply to Re: Yet another de-commit ]

Again IRONY!!!

In a "better conference," you should get better caliber players. And with a legendary name like Spurrier, South Carolina should recruit the talent it takes to win at least ONE conference championship (a la Dabo Swinney at Clemson) And even in the ACC, (which South Carolina was apart of until 1991), South Carolina only won ONE championship and none of us was around to see it, therefore it really didn't happen. Oh wait, that IS the South Carolina fan's argument.

Duke wasn't the class of the ACC in the 80's and yet won a championship with the same coach at your school. Meaning that when South Carolina WAS the class of your conference (as you ALL would think) he couldn't muster one conference championship.....NOT ONE!!! And in the one you did play in, someone dropped 63 on you that was a Tiger as well (Auburn - 2009).

As a matter of fact, this is the second time South Carolina ran away having to play FSU (again in scheduling this up coming season.)

You are right! In 1971, you cried about it not being fair and ran away and no one wanted you until 1983 in the Metro-something another conference (which you weren't good enough to win) and the SEC in 1992 (which you aren't relevant unless Georgia, Tennessee and Florida all are tanking, which was the case in 2009 and still aren't good enough to compete in with MIZZOU appearing in the SEC championship game the past two years). Which in that time STILL could not recruit good enough players to win a national championship (which independent schools Miami and Notre Dame did). Irony of you recruitment statement gets even sweeter!!!

Speaking of delusional...

May 19, 2015, 10:41 AM

10. South Carolina Football Fans:

The Gamecocks’ fans see their beloved program as one of the best in the SEC. But in order to be the best, you do have to win some big bowl games, right? Sure the Gamecocks have won three consecutive postseason games, but not once in the entire 16-year era did they even play in a BCS contest. Furthermore, in the 22 years that SC has played in the SEC, they’ve finished with a losing record in-conference 12 times. It’s only been the last three seasons, which all featured 11 wins, that South Carolina has put up double-digit victories since moving conferences.

Many South Carolina fans consider the Gamecocks an elite program but it is far, far too premature to put them in that category. They have had some big personalities come through Columbia lately, including the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft Jadeveon Clowney and their current coach Steve Spurrier. The attention that these personalities have received, much of it off the field, has helped build South Carolina fan’s delusion considerably.

assumption that the SEC was a superior conference when the NCAA was awarding Alabama those fictional national titles by making sure they were in the title game against another handpicked opponent (remember Notre Dame). After last year, the new format and bowl season verified what a lot of football fans already knew - the SEC was largely overrated!!!! This years championship game, where virtually the same Ohio State team with a third team quarterback that we beat the previous year, destroyed the myth that Alabama is that much better than anyone else. Still laughing about that SEC speed - especially when I think about the LSU players (who didn't want to be there - lol) dropping like flies and the UGA players faking injuries left and right. Had it still been a media/ESecPN/BCS game this year,it would have been Bama vs FSU. Both teams that would have been beat be the so called number 3,4,5 & 6 teams. In the VERY FIRST year of the playoff, it was PROVEN what a farce the old system was, along with that the SEC.A FACT you can't argue with.

I know it hurts,as a Coot you've been led to believe in the MIGHTY SEC . It goes back to Lou telling you all that you win anywhere else when you were 1-21.You all lapped up like a Crack Ho on payday.

Now , with the playing field being somewhat leveled, the SEC will not automatically get a spot in the Championship game every year.If the first year is any indication, they'll fail more times than they succeed.

OLe Miss and MISS State being propped up all year, only to get steamrolled in bowl games ,just another point of proof.

The fact that 2 mid level BIG 12 teams have came in and competed better than USuC ever has, also another point that the Might SEC was not as advertised.

Love it having to be won on the field instead of them being automatically anointed with HANDPICKED opponents. The MYTH has been exposed.

+1 for the first of your very pointed and accurate picture links. It is ingrained in them from birth, propped up by a very biased sports media, led by an owned networks (ESecPN). The new system exposed the myth. Now, are there a few really elite teams in the ESecPN? Yes, but not all are special as we all have been trained to believe. The Championship Series exposed that last year. It was "Poetic Justice".

undefeated...

What a moron. You can argue that the SEC as a whole was overrated, but the 7 championships are legitimate. The entire rest of the nation had the opportunity to knock them off, but couldn't. Many idiots here claim that the SEC teams that played in those National Championships shouldn't have been there, and were only there because of flawed rankings- if that was the case, how come they kept winning those games? Do I think all the SEC hype was justified? No, but you can't knock them for the national championships.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Funny thing is, the very first year that they weren't picked

Jun 5, 2015, 9:20 PM

BEFORE the season to have one of the 2 spots in the Championship game, they lost. You see, that's the BS ESecPN fed the nation during the BCS era. SEC automatically got 1 spot while the other 100 plus teams fought it out for the other. It was a face is a proven fact.

LOL. That's all you got now. If you want to include history, include all of it and you are still behind us in total wins, number of wins in a streak etc etc. Too bad you can't sell a recently ended state championship streak to a recruit who is a native of Georgia like that matters to him. Oh and 35-17!!!!!

1 - Dabo is 2 - 5 against $CU and the Old Ball Sack.

2 - Carolina is in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and

3 - $50.00 says Slurrier retires before Dabo gets the chance to even the series at 5 - 5 in 2017.

thread, NONE address the issue behind the OP-----that is the remarkable number of recruits that have publicly committed to usuck's football program and then just as publicly de-committed.....and all these people have de-committed aware that usuck was coming off NCAA probation.......strange when one considers recruits usually decommit when a school is facing probation

'09 gets my vote for the most ignorant and ill informed coot on this board. He is telling someone they are looking through orange tinted glasses while he has looked through garnet glasses all his life. That is called a hypocrite '09 and that is exactly what you are. Have you ever compared Clemson's campus with USuCk's lack of campus. Night and day DA.

May 19, 2015, 12:05 PM

A true measure of recent history does not include only the last 6 years. That is the capon
idea of history. Not any other groups way.

You are trying to stir up our board by continuing to insist that Dabo is 1-5 vs your alkie
HOF coach. When in reality you know it isn't true.

Any true statistical analysis requires at least 20 data point to generate a reliable confidence
percentage. That's true for golf handicaps, sales data, in fact just about everything.

So let's look at the recent history from the last 20 years shall we...

Oh look. What is the trend?

Clemson has 12 wins
Yardbirds 8 wins

That means CU has won 60% of the most recent games.

We have a 99% confidence that we will beat you at least 6 out of 10 times

Its just about the same amount that we have in percentage if you count all of history
66-42 comes out to 61%.

You see Blue boy, the fact is, and you know it, we own you no matter who your coach is, what era it is in, or where the game is played.

Now come back again with your meaningless 1-5 crap. We all see you acting like a cat in a sandbox trying to cover up the turd of the truth. Clemson owns you in football and always will

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can throw stats out for the foreseeable future... SCar

I'm sure blockbuster used those "last 20 points of data" to conclude their business plan would be viable today. Spare me this BS. You know SC is in a better place than we were 20 years ago and it's showed in our record against Clemson. SC was 2-8 against Clemson from 95-04. You keep telling yourself we'll regress back to the mean. Ignore the spikes in the data if you'd like. SC's program is in a better place and you know it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jun 3, 2015, 11:15 AM

SC missed out during the down tenn and fla years. Zero championships.

Now they are back where they belong, 4th in the east.

Yea, because Florida and Tenn look to be juggernauts. Seriously, it'll be a tough year for SC to do well in the east but there aren't any teams we absolutely have no shot to beat.
