You think the Bridge is bad? ....try Furman's policy:

Feb 13, 2018, 11:29 AM

My daughter has all the numbers that got her into each of the schools that she applied to: Duke, UNC, WF, Vandy & Clemson as well as Wofford...and then there's Furman. If you're not aware, Furman has become extremely liberal with all the tree-hugging, socially (in)correct & diversity centered oddballs. The one "deferred" letter she received came from here, despite being named a "Furman Scholar". So being somewhere between confused & outraged, we called Admissions to see if a mistake had been made and their Academic Dean replied, "Well, we just don't know her very well." He set up an appointment for us with one of their counselors, who spent 30 minutes in a PowerPoint show, asked & answered a few questions and shook her hand. Three days letter, she received her admission letter, including the amount of scholarship money that she was entitled too! By the way, she won't be going there and will hope to get her letter to the Calhoun College @ Clemson on the 15th.

Moral of the story...follow up and investigate the situation because these Admission folks are bombarded every year with many deserving applicants & some get lost in the shuffle.

The real moral of the story is don't go through the trouble of applying to Furman if you know you will get into UNC, Duke, Vandy, Clemson, WF

Unless you just enjoy wasting money.

Furman . ... hah.

So she got accepted into a bunch of liberal schools.

Feb 13, 2018, 11:39 AM

And one denied her. What's your point?

Has no real daughter, is not a coach and lives in a tent beneath an underpass in Columbia .

He didn't say they denied her. He was simply describing their oddball practice of wait-listing applicants until they can "get to know them".

Colleges are graded on their offer vs acceptance rate.

Did you visit the university and do a tour or meet with a representative on campus?

If not, they wait listed your daughter because they didn't think she was really interested and they didn't want to take a hit on their offer vs acceptance rate.

"we don't know her very well" means she didn't really express interest in the school to make them think she might actually enroll.

I think you mean just acceptance rate, they don't really offer anything as prospective students apply and then are accepted by universities.

That doesn't mean that all of the accepted parties will enroll in said university as usually many are accepted by more than one.

Feb 13, 2018, 2:34 PM

Why is it bad that they want to accept the students who most want to go there?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Back when I attended FU it was probably the top school in the state
