Remove the Clemson affiliation and you can say whatever you want. Keep the Clemson affiliation and you're going to have to be held responsible for your actions as they represent an entire institution.

I am on the fence with that, I believe people deserve second chances and I know nothing about the guy. So I leave that up to the University. Again, what he said was beyond unacceptable, and embarrassing to our University. But it is also embarrassing that people were threatening to stop giving money because they got offended. And several are the same people defending the first amendment rights of Neo Nazis and the KKK who say far more vicious and vile things. He owes us a public apology, but ruining the career of a person is not cool, even if they are a white supremacist. People have bills to pay and families to support.

This act probably made him more attractive to MANY institutions of higher education. I'm not concerned about his ability to provide for himself.

Can you provide one example of a "Professor at Clemson" praising the KKK or Neo Nazisin any type of public statement and also provide insight into which donors defended them?
Also, when you speak as a representative of your employer, which this guy did, you can absolutely be held accountable for hurting the reputation of that employer.
People are fired every day for this type of avtivity.

I don't think people are calling for him to be fired because they are offended, they are calling for him to be fired because he is unfit to be a teacher. If he worked at Wal-Mart, then I doubt people would care if he was fired, but he has no business being a teacher, or a judge, or policeman, or anything else where delusion and extreme bias and calls for violence towards nearly half the population should disqualify you from the job.

No need to turn on the Prez. He is in a no win situation. Fire him and you'll probably have ANTIFA and the Far Left marching on campus and don't fire him you disappoint the majority of Clemson fans who are Constitutional Conservatives. Hate to say it but the Left knows, President Clements knows and the whole world knows that Conservatives/Republicans aren't going to violently march, vandalizing other people's property, beat up people with differing views or destroy our campus. So much easier to disappoint them than the home grown terrorist that is ANTIFA and the ALT/Far Left. As far as I know this is a Right to Work state so unless that means something different for public schools he doesn't need a reason to fire him. Like I said I am not 100% on that. Like the poster above stated, if this were reversed and it was a white man calling all Democrats government bums who do nothing but suckle off the teat of working Americans and that they all should be deported, exiled, sorry the tribe has spoken please put your torch out, then we are probably looking at a completely different result here. Free speech does not guarantee one the right to incite violence. And to blanket millions of voters as racist does not indicate an attitude that would qualify him as an un-biased professor. I would equally be opposed if he had been a far-right advocate.
If we excuse his act for the sake of his obtaining grants, then we have lost our sense of moral values. Freedom of speech is a precious right but it comes with consequences when abused. We would hope that those who teach in our educational institutions would rightfully recognize the boundaries where free speech is abused.

up the right to free speech in this discussion. It has nothing to do with this. If you want to talk about Clemson's wish to create an open environment of viewpoints, go ahead. Whether Clemson decides to keep this professor or not has nothing to do with the First Amendment.
Having said that, that's fine if we keep him. Let's just remember this the next time a professor, student or administrator says something that upsets the more left-leaning side of the political spectrum. No hypocracy, please.
If I was a student forced to take this guy's class, I would have a hard time resisting the urge to wear a Make America Great Again hat every day to class (and I hate Trump). Clemson believes this guy can do his job well despite what he posted on social media...I'd like to test that.
