2020 Clemson @ ND
2022 Clemson @ ND
2023 ND @ Clemson

Wow - I hope we are good in that period.
And I hope that I have more priority points.

GO TIGERS!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ok but do they ever actually join the ACC???

Oct 21, 2014, 4:30 PM

I thought they were in 2016 once their NBC contract was up?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They will never join. There is no reason for them to.

Oct 21, 2014, 4:36 PM

Contract with NBC too good to share revenues. There is no telling how big that contract is.

They are being treated as the king of the acc now, why join and lose that!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm OK if they keep the contract but be a full member!

Oct 21, 2014, 6:55 PM [ in reply to Ok but do they ever actually join the ACC??? ]

I don't mind if Clemson is on NBC when they plat at home or at ND.

Conventional wisdom is they would only join if they were nudged out of the playoffs bc of a weak SOS and needed the full protection of a power 5 affiliation to solve that.

Who knows what the committee rankings will look like coming up, but if you go by the media and coaches, ND gets more love for their schedule than a full ACC member. It's odd though. Stanford is a fraud - again. USC is a name, but now a power. Remember they lost to BC. ASU - decent, but know more impressive that Ok state or Georgia.

ND is getting SEC type love in the rankings right now. I don't think their schedule is any tougher than FSU or Clemson's for that matter. Maybe it's just temporary love for ND bc it fit the ESPN agenda to denegrate FSU and the ACC.

Rambling post, but short answer is I don't think they become a full football member anytime soon.

Re: FB Update: ACC, Notre Dame Announce Football Playing Dates Through 2025

It was September 1970 and I was on leave from the Army before shipping off to Vietnam. I thought it would be a great idea to catch one more Tiger football game before my year away. This was an ancient time long before the advent of either the Internet or FedEx, so to get my tickets in a timely fashion, a trip to Clemson was in order. After visiting some friends, who prudently continued their schooling and deferment, in graduate school, I zipped over to the Athletic Department which was housed in Fike Field House. Game tickets could be bought in the lobby of Fike, but when I got there, no one else was around. As I waited and looked into the ticket window, out of a side door bounded a rather large fellow full of energy and full of himself. It was the Clemson Athletic Director, former Coach, and all around Legend, Frank Howard. Since there was no one else around, just little old me, I was the only human available for him to share his excitement. He said, "Hey boy, come over here, I want to tell you what I have just done." I dutifully said, "Yes Coach Howard." He said, "I just got off the phone with Notre Dame and signed them to a 'home and away deal' for '77 and '78." For a 23 year old off to Vietnam that seemed like an eternity away, but now,in retrospect, playing them toe-to-toe in '77 and beating them in their house in '78 is one of the keys leading to the Tiger's success and national relevance of the 1980's.
