WR Screens

Sep 24, 2017, 11:50 AM

Work best when you have a WR like Peake was, that'll lay a DB out.

Yep, Hunter was struggling yesterday...

Sep 24, 2017, 11:57 AM

Three times they just pushed him right into the receiver and blew up the play.

Hunter catches the ball better than Peake did,

but NO WR in Clemson history blocked like Peake.

Vt will take on for 6 if we keep doing them like that.

Seemed to me the problem was that Bryant was leading the reciever straight into the block.

I agree. He puts a lot of air under his short passes when they needs to be heat coming from them but that can be corrected.

KB's passes also played a part, but...

if you watch the game over you will see that they were purposely pushing Hunter backward into the receiver, and that is the root cause of the failure. Maybe we can put Amari, Cornell, or someone stronger in to block in those situations.

Cornell Powell would be a force in those blocking situations.

While the blocking wasn't great it was adequate. It looked more like the like the timing and spacing was off on the throw, leading the receiver into the engage blocker with just one step.

That's what I saw as well - the receiver

was never more that 1-2 steps from the blocker. Basically set up to blow him up. Plus, we did it so often that no one was fooled.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Blocking on those screens was nowhere near adequate.***

Play should be renamed the "pick six" play.***

It seems like we were forcing that play a lot last night,

Sep 24, 2017, 12:46 PM

possibly the staff simply trying to help the O dial it in for later games. It's important that it be an option for us to help keep defenses spread out more across the line. They'll certainly have a LOT of film to look over on those plays this week.
