So I hate Clowney now, but in a few months...

Nov 26, 2013, 3:47 PM

as a Falcons fan I may have to change my mind.

Looks like the Clown may be a dirty bird next year.

Gonna be tough rooting for him if that happens.

Much like rooting for Cam Newton as a Panthers fan.

Clowney's work ethic is really going to have to improve....

Nov 26, 2013, 4:00 PM

otherwise, he is going to be a miserable failure in the NFL.

He will also be subject to the new rookie wage scale and the four-year "no wiggle room" contract requirement.

If I am an NFL owner, this is a contract that I want to load-up with incentives rather than a lot of up-front money.

It depends

Nov 26, 2013, 4:37 PM

on what your definition of "miserable" failure happens to be.

To some folks that aren't going to like him regardless, unless he's an All Pro every year, he's going to be considered a big bust.

Cam Newton was also heavily ridiculed for a lot of things- and of course a lot of folks predicted his game wouldn't do well in the pros. They were flat wrong.

There are a lot of examples of guys who worked their tails off that were big busts in the NFL - and a lot of guys that seemingly didn't work that hard that did very well.

My point is....

Nov 26, 2013, 4:51 PM

one of the big reasons why his draft stock has fallen is becasue his conditioning and his work ethic, or lack thereof, have been called into question. I'm not questioning his ability but in the NFL everyone has ability and potential.

Re: My point is....

Nov 26, 2013, 5:04 PM

mainly it's because there are a few really good quarterbacks coming out this year, and that is a position that will always be higher in demand than any other especially when teams with early picks need a franchise qb

last year he was talked about as the number one overall pick had he come out because there weren't any quarterbacks that were worth taking at that slot...if Bridgewater had been available last year Clowney may not have been talked about as the number one overall pick

In small part perhaps but certainly not "mainly".

Nov 26, 2013, 5:10 PM

Clowney's ;s performance on the field, or lack thereof on a number of occasions, has done more to diminish his draft status than anything else.

not according to NFL executives

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah....

Nov 26, 2013, 5:30 PM

statement like;

"not as clean of a prospect as he was before the season"

"He needs better health and conditioning"

"My only concern is his makeup"

The five (5) executives they chose to contact may not be overly concerned but the decline in his drat projection supports my position.

Of course, if the five executives they contacted are from teams like Jacksonville, Oakland, or Minnesota, I wouldn't put too much stock in their opinions anyway.

Re: Yeah....

Where have you seen his draft stock hurting?

He is still listed as the top one or two pick by every major publication just like he always has been

I'm die hard falcons fan and I want Clowney or barr. Falcons are tied for the 1st pick In draft at 2-9

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't stand him right now but if he.......

Nov 26, 2013, 4:31 PM

gets picked by the Falcons that will be great. As a Falcons fan, I'll be a big fan of Clowney's in the pros.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I will hate him no matter who he plays for.

Nov 26, 2013, 4:40 PM

He is a piece of crap person who happens to be athletically gifted.

Meanwhile the only coot I have ever liked and respected (Lattimore) gets repeated injuries. Life is not fair.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Texans won't take him.

Nov 26, 2013, 5:00 PM

Falcons desperately need a pass rusher. It is very likely that is where he ends up.
