Really if you live here in this state you have no place to make light of another state or city's economic plight, when this state is one of the poorest in the country where most residents have to depend on a government check to get by.

put back in the federal government. I don't know the exact percentage of people on public assistance, but the state of South Carolina is a welfare state as it is dependent upon federal money for it's government and citizens to get by.

all the devleopment is coming from investment dollars, not the city or county. Detroit is a great example of gentrification. People are making a fortune up there now.

Detroit, the city, has been a mess for nearly 50 years. It started with the riots in the late 60's and the "white flight" that ensued. I grew up in a very nice neighborhood between 10-mile and 11-mile road in the 70's and 80's when Detroit was the murder capital of the world...the city ends at 8-mile (eminem, anyone?). The city has become an empty "donut hole" in the middle of tremendous wealth. Also, as stated above, the building of arenas, stadiums, etc., is not financed by the city.
