Would you be down to hire Chad Holbrook?

Jun 7, 2017, 4:08 AM

As an assistant? With his history with Monte Lee and the fact he is one of the best recruiters in the country, it would be a good move in my opinion.

Uhhh, no.

He will be a head coach at another school within a week.

Former head coaches rarely adjust to being assistants.

Certainly not long term as an assistant.

Pretty big shoes to fill after Tanner, he was pretty much set up to underachieve, if not fail, in the eyes of the fans and administration.

He could go coach at some smaller school up north and turn a team into a small conference powerhouse and be the program hero there.

Chad said he "will always be a Gamecock".

Jun 7, 2017, 7:21 AM

So, no.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd love to hire him. But I'd imagine he will get a head gig

Jun 7, 2017, 7:38 AM

somewhere a little smaller.

He's a great recruiter and a solid coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes.

Jun 7, 2017, 9:30 AM

I believe he'll be a head coach though at another program but he is a heck of a recruiter.

No way!

Jun 7, 2017, 10:34 AM

Absolutely no way I'd hire someone who was once considered the best assistant/recruiter in college baseball but failed as a head coach to be an assistant.

Brad Scott and numerous examples say hello.

Jun 7, 2017, 5:55 PM

Some guys weren't meant to head coaches but are great assistants.

My sarcasm didn't come throufh

Jun 8, 2017, 12:08 AM

Highly doubt it will happen due to our current situation but if Monte did hire him I'd be thrilled

I personally know some former USC baseball players and they all say Holbrook was a tool as an assistant.......and that he would not succeed long term as USC's coach....Guess they were right!

Re: Would you be down to hire Chad Holbrook?

Jun 7, 2017, 5:25 PM

With a buyout Holbrook can take his time searching. Tanner will give him a strong endorsement and he is an excellent recruiter. He likely will start over at a slightly lesser program needing a rebuild. He has a nice home in Columbia he will have to sell, but that should not be a problem.

Go Tigers!

Re: Would you be down to hire Chad Holbrook?

Jun 7, 2017, 5:50 PM

Probably a good idea. Ignore the naysayers on this board that have limited sight on a coach's talent / abilities / strengths.

He would add really good pitching and fielding and hitting to the lineup. Not that we're all that bad, but we have some weaknesses that he could cure. I trust Lee and we will see what he decides. We will be fine either way, but saying "NO" is not the best answer IMO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We don't have an opening.

Jun 7, 2017, 7:38 PM

If LeCroy got a head coaching job, I would believe Monte would ask if he wanted to interview and then after that - It's Monte's decision.

I have spoken with Holbrook. He's much nicer in person than I expected. He grew up in Greenville; he has been around Clemson; and his sister is a Clemson alum.

Re: We don't have an opening.

Jun 7, 2017, 7:45 PM

Hey, the question was, would YOU be down with hiring Holbrook. My response is NO. And yes, I know baseball. Holbrook would not work out too well as an assistant after being a head coach.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well

Jun 7, 2017, 8:37 PM

YOU being ME WOULD.

It's not my decision. It would be Monte's decision. Monte may not want him looking over his shoulder - IF WE HAD AN OPENING!

Would YOU have hired Brad Scott?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: How long do you think it would thak him to learn

Jun 8, 2017, 5:57 AM

If YOU would have asked me at the time, I probably would have said NO. Just because ONE 2-star works out doesn't mean ALL of them will. It won't matter, Lee won't hire him and that ex-coot coach wouldn't coach her anyway. Moot point.
