Would Wayne Gallman be our starter now?

Nov 23, 2018, 9:08 AM

I say yes. I just rewatched Louisville 2016 (game still makes me nervous) and I forgot what a complete running back he was/is.

Yes. ETN is a better runner, but Gallman was miles ahead of where anyone on the roster is in pass pro.

Yes - not as fast, shifty or explosive as we have now, but knew how to follow blocks, find the hole, move the pile and most of all, was a terrific blocker.

Ask this same question next year.

I doubt it. Yes he is better at pass pro but ETN is a top 3 back in the nation.

I think he'd split snaps with ETN. But somehow choice we still get entire drives at a time...

Loved the Wayne Train but ETN is just pure carrying the ball, he can take it to the house at any moment. I think opponents get the same feeling I had when Cook was at FSU.

No way in hayull.

Nov 23, 2018, 10:22 AM

He would be in the rotation, for sure, but absolutely no way he would start or get most of the carries. I find it bizzare that this question is even being asked. I loved Gallman; he was a tough runner who did a lot of things very well. ETN, on the other hand, is a game-changer, and impacts the game in a way Gallman could not.

Yes , he is the complete package. ETN would get his though.

Interesting question. Would Spiller start is better question

Nov 23, 2018, 1:30 PM

Spiller was a star in his time, but Spiller (5.9 ypc) was not as good a runner as ETN (7.9 ypc) and he was not expected or required to block.

Spiller got 5.9 ypc in a pre-chad Morris offense. It’s not a fair comparison. CJ Spiller in this offensive scheme would be absolutely ludicrous.

What? RB pass pro is way more important for a Trevor Lawrence style offense. Being a lead blocker for QB run is easy compared to RB pass pro, you lead through the hole and block the any free player trying to fill the hole. Pass pro for RBs is way harder and way more important when you trend towards throwing the ball more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No.

Nov 23, 2018, 2:12 PM

Gallman averaged like 4.5 ypc... Etienne is at like 8 ypc. Gallman was a good blocker and all but he would be the 4th best runner on this team behind Etienne, Feaster, and Lyn-J.

I would only start Gallman if I was ceding the fact that we can't run at all.. like possibly against Bama.

I mean, the only person ahead of Wayne Gallman is Saquon Barkley, so I’d imagine the answer is yes. He’s a pro after all. The real question would be, if we still had Wayne, would Choice or Feaster ever see the field before the 4th quarter?
