with this school shooting, it’s sure to happen again. The media is 3/4 of the problem. They bring fame and relentless coverage and outrage and divisions.

You should read the new book by Detroit local Charlie LeDuff called “Sh*tshow” it’s an amazing read. Details all of this media circus.

But maybe we could ask them to change how they cover the events. My biggest gripe is that the killer becomes famous. Not showing pictures of the killers and not referring to them by name might help reduce the number of sick fame seekers. Though I'm not sure how important that is as a motivation.

But it simply boils down to that you can't. It's not good journalism. You have to report the facts, and the people have a right to know who the killer was. Sometimes people need to be held accountable for that killer.

It's not a great answer and it's messy, but that's the job.

maybe if the media was not so profit driven they would not chase down every controversial story and instead start informing the public. I chalk this up, along with healthcare and criminal justice, as a situation where the profit motive acts against our best interests.

I don't watch cable or network news. Do they spend any time exploring why the US has a much higher rate of mass shootings and gun violence than Canada, Europe, Japan, etc.?
