With a younger, less experienced defense, next season

Jan 10, 2019, 11:26 PM

Does this help Trevor or Etienne's chances at winning the Heisman? I'm not faulting the staff by any means but we tend to pull the 1's as early as we can. I love the fact that our 1's are better rested for a long season, our 2's, 3's and 4's get meaningful reps and are better prepared to really contribute down the line, and we get a live fire evaluation of them. But, it does lessen the chances of our guys with awards. With a defense having less experience and more likely to give up points, does it benefit our Heisman hopefulls because they might actually play in a 2nd half.

Could you imagine how many yards and TD's Etienne would have with the number of carries backs at Wisconsin get? The Snell kid from Kentucky is a good back but he pales in comparison. Kentucky's offense lived on his back all season. At one time he was the #1 RB in the Heisman race, I think he was averaging 5.5 ypc. That's not even close to worthy to carry Etienne's jock strap.

(These numbers are rush only) Travis had 204 car. 1658 yards and 24 touchdowns, 8.1 ypc, 110.5 ypg. On 13.6 CPG. Had he gotten 5 more carries a game with same ypc, same TD ratio of 1 per 8.5 carries this is what his numbers would look like.

18.6 CPG
30.82 TD
151 YPG
2265 Total Rushing Yards

With those numbers it would be darn near impossible to not get the Heisman and Doak.

Heisman winning RB's (winning season)

D. Henry 395 car. 2219 yd, 5.6 avg, 28 td
Ingram 271. 1658. 6.1. 16
Bush 200. 1740. 8.7 16
Dayne. 337. 2034. 6.0. 20
R. Williams 361. 2124 5.9. 27
George. 328. 1927. 5.9. 24
Salaam. 344. 2628. 7.6. 37
Bo. 278. 1786. 6.4. 17

Etienne is the best running back in the country, but with Trevor at full force and starting all season, Etienne doesn’t have a prayer of winning the Heisman. It’s Trevor’s to lose. It’s a QB award with rare exception.

Totally agree. If TL is not at the top of the list there is something wrong.

first quarter and causing us to slow start all year long? With us matching Bama, the quick start team of record, I'd say it paid off.

There's room right between our exiting starters and the three deep behind them but this isn't our coaches' first rodeo. Every year folks vote us down in the preseason polls because of what we lost except last year.

Every year in over half a decade we've gotten better on defense while we all cried about losses except for last year. I'm not making that mistake again. A burnt hen stays away from the fire.

Phooey on that dumb popularity contest. Clemson wisely chooses not to spend 6 figures on PR campaigns to get it for our guys, because it is stupid. Awards that require PR advocates to acquire are not awards at all.

Add in the fact that 24 of his runs were cut short by a TD and WOW! His yards per carry and total yards would have popped even more.
