Even if there is only 1 SEC team, ESPN will flip out.

They are already realizing that 8 teams gives them a shot at getting 3 teams in every year.

I think so. I think the NCAA feels like we the audience

needs to be slowly adjusted to the change. Or they need to slowly adjust themselves...maybe to be sure the money will follow the change.

The NCAA has no part in the playoff

Nov 10, 2014, 9:52 PM

It's run and owned by the power five conferences and they sold the TV rights to ESPN.

There's some overlap there***

If they would have gone to 8 or 16

Nov 10, 2014, 9:56 PM

Teams it would have killed the bowls right away. The bowls will be dead in 10 years.

Preserving the bowls more or less as they are.

That's a great reason for ignoring common sense and not doing what's best for college football. Folks, the emperor has no clothes.

Sure it will - it's just a matter of time IMO.......

Nov 10, 2014, 10:18 PM

before the Top 20 or so are involved in a playoff. The more teams/games there are the more money there is to be made and that's what drives everything in sports these days.

In 6 years, it will.***

If $$$ is involved, and of course it is, there will be a larger playoff system. Three years tops.

Going to an eight-team format will depend upon how

Nov 11, 2014, 5:49 AM

impartial the committee appears in its selections.

I don't think collegiate football fandom would sit still for two teams from one conference, despite rankings. That's because too many people across the nation believe, rightly or wrongly, that there is a strong media bias toward one particular conference. Secondly, the same folks think the media bias will influence the committee.

At least one of the power five will be left out this year, and there'll be screaming from those folks. An eight-team format would spread the wealth more, possibly allowing for two teams from one conference without too much uproar.

Hence, I believe it's only a matter of time, depending upon this and next year's selections.

When #4 wins the title it will help the argument

Nov 11, 2014, 12:43 PM

but the only real hangup is when/where to play the extra game.

Minor bowls will be no more irrelevant than they are now.

They'll be like the NIT

I think 8 will be perfect whenever we reach that point.

Nov 11, 2014, 12:46 PM

I have absolutely no desire to ever see a playoff larger than 8 teams.

if so, I hope it doesn't get watered down like the bowls did

Nov 11, 2014, 1:16 PM

I think 8 will be the most. Naturally $ will have something to do with it.
